Nice explanation of the Guild system. I'm a veteran at Bico, I've past from a Knights Guild (2 years) to a Viking's one for the last 18 years. Being there is the only way to comprehend it.

One of the reasons I moved away from RPing in MMOs was I would start a level 1 character as some dude just making his way in the world. Then some other level 1 rolls up talking about how he was an all-powerful King until he was bitten by a vampire and werewolf in the same evening and the townsfolk rose up and cast him out and killed his entire family because he's a vampire/werewolf hybrid. So now he hunts the world for a cure for his affliction so he can reclaim his throne and take revenge upon those who ousted him. Ten minutes later you see his Majesty getting killed by a decaying skeleton. Just got tired of trying to actually create something that made sense with every third new character you run into is a max level fully-formed hero. Sounds like Bico has a lot less of that going around. :)

It's a lot more fun to have some interesting characteristics that are something people can interact with rather than a dark brooding backstory that no one knows (or really has time for).

In Bico, the organizers decided to keep the rules as simple as possible, so A doesn't need to argue with B that his Invisible Armor spell cancels out B's Fireball cast. If you can run uphill with a 70-pound plate armor, that's not because you bought the Superior Strength Skill, it's because you can actually run up a hill wearing a 70-pound plate armor.
