I just recently got into fly fishing and fly tying and this channel is very helpful. Being born and raised on the White river here in western michigan I really appreciate all the background and history on these flies.

That is the fly that I was using the day I was below you and Jim S. on the NB years ago. “Effective” is too mild a term.

Excellent info and pattern! I fish the Ausable, and this is almost my favorite hatch... next to big drakes. I also found, like you tied in the dark gray wing, they really show up on the light side in daylight. I tie a dry fly with dark gray wings like this, and works great. I will be trying your pattern for sure, thanks -Dan.

35 years ago I would use that fly most of the time; most of the time nowadays I fish dry
