All the old houses in mass have cedar shingle. Holds up against the salt from the sea and the salt from the roads. Pilgrims knew what they were doing

Buddy bought an old house from 1770 with original cedar shingles. He rehabbed the place as an investment to sell it. New cedar shingles. Crazy to think the shingles on that house were older than the dang country lol

Thats false. I work in pest control and they most definitely eat cedar. Although its not preferred because of the oils in cedar wood. Subterranean Formosan termites will eat through whatever wood is available

my grandfather used to tell me that hes forgot more things than i will ever know. 😂I remember being a boy and listening to my father and uncles talk about work stuff and they all knew so much. nobody knows how to plug a tire these days and that's sad.

Soft woods: Pine, poplar, Cedar Hard wood: oak, walnut, maple and mesquite Mesquite is great for bbq too.

Yeah oak isn't the hardest or necessarily hard to work with. Hardest where i live in the us gotta be osage, though I believe there's ironwoods and mesquites out west. Even harder stuff outside the us.

Carpenter here and Bryce is correct about the ceder for outdoor use, but is nearly right about the oak strength and hardness. Hard maple is the hardest wood there is, then its red oak.

Exposed Redwood last longer than exposed cedar. Redwood is the fast growing tree species in North America. It grows 3-7ft annually depending on weather conditions. It's the most sustainable, reusable tree product that most people are unaware of....

FYI: Seizing can happen any time someone is unconscious. Even if it’s not caused by brain or spine trauma. People think it’s a sign of a more damage in regard to a knockout because it’s a shocking thing to see compared to the more common fencing response or just a limp body, but it’s really just a thing that can happen.

Farmers use oak for their trailers. My papaw tried using cedar for his trailers and the cattles hooves fell through it. He's right about cedar preserving itself. I think cedar wood takes the longest to season. But once it's seasoned then it burns for a long time and smells good lol

People get too wrapped up in the hard-and-fast guidelines for how to use hard/soft woods respectively. There’s really a lot more context to it, like the example you gave for trailers.

Cedar is basically just as hard and hickory is a lot harder to come by. The trunks aren't as big as cedar. Same with locust. Plus cedar has a prettier color and better smell
