I own this amp. Paid $260 in 2016. I find your comments to be spot on. It’s built like a tank as you suggest , with no frills. It currently drives my SVS Ultra Bookshelves. Zero complaints with the MX-2. If I find another, you can bet I’ll snatch it up. A little rambling, but a good video.

These amps were a steal at the time they came out and now they are a super steal if you can find one.

I did test my mx2 with two JBL 15s, I can't believe what this amp capable of, and the sound quality, this amp amazed me.

Bought an MX-2 at a thrift store about two years ago for $49.00 in perfectly mint, and excellent working condition! The store didn't know what they had, and I didn't know what a great amp I'd bought at the time! I use it to power a pair of KEF 107's. The sound I'm getting, I would compare with the most very high-end systems!

Had the amp been recapped?

What is the likelihood that one of these MX-1 amps would still function perfectly today if it hasn't been recapped or serviced?

Is there a downside on running both channels on less the max gain?

Do these require recapping?

MX-1/MX-2 are HCA amp that run class A spec minus the heat. My MX-1 runs far cooler than the M-50 so am sure MX-2 runs cool. I also have a P2200 that I can push whole day and it doesn't break a sweat.

You say the amp was going on 25 yrs. is your use of it with new capacitors or the original ones?
@TheDarius19682 жыл бұрын
Hey, I've acquired my father's old MX-1 - Purchased in 1994; Not used since 2007. When it was in service from 1994-2007, it probably got roughly 8 hrs./wk. use. Given that I'd like to make use of it, do you think the capacitors are still good, or is replacement necessary? Otherwise, it's in mint condition! Thanks.
