Happened to me as well. Was pretty good at math and decided to study it. Enrolled at the Uni which is known for the math faculty. Due to me having been actually pretty good at school without having to learn I was completely unprepared. Getting over the imposter syndrom is not as easy as people like to make you think. I have never been the most confident person so I started developing anxiety and stuff. People passed me while I was sorta stuck in a loop. It was a dark place, let me tell ya. However, this took me down a path I'm okay with. I like me as a human being much more. In essence: universally its not about how smart you are but the amount of effort you are willing to put into a certain path and don't overly praise children.

That's really sad... I risked a similar trajectory, what probably saved me was having around kids smarter than me (my younger brother and my cousin, now we are all doctors, I am becoming a psychiatrist, my brother a cardiologist and my cousin and ophtalmologist) and having a family that supported me during the bad months in med school

Great vid man. I'm going through the higher education stuff right now. I totally agree that it's super important to meet people. However, it's super difficult doing STEM and meeting people/doing projects. It sucks away so much time.

Wild to think you went BYUI. I had a very similar experience. Though I was Mormon at the time, my 2 years there are probably the biggest reason I don’t practice anymore. That was over 10 years ago now and I have since gone back for my BA and am now in an MA program. Glad to hear and see how much you’ve seen to bounce back.

I had a similar experience with elementary science fair. Had a hovercraft made from a science kit (cause I loved the movie Rumble in the Brox and hovercrafts) and tested it on various surfaces; sand, gravel, water, etc. and remember being bummed about the bad grade. Gave me the sense they're more interested in completing "approved" experiments with expected outcomes than a kid being creative. Hadn't thought about that in a long time haha.

Im an electrical engineer that works on flight controls for airplanes, and i also have a bachelor's in physics. The only thing "wrong" with your explanation was dividing the weight and lift instead of subtracting them. I still would have given you a GD A+ lol

I was an advanced student while also being so far behind. The advanced biology students had to grade the science fair projects of the freshman, but I was also in a freshman class, so I had to make a project and grade other people's projects for the competition. Each area had 1st through third and an honorable mention. I made a math science fair project, and it was so shitty, that despite their only being 2 math projects, they didnt even give me an honorable mention. I literally just wrote with a sharpie on a board, no pictures no nothing

I get really bad headaches too, and they're always a consistent set of symptoms throughout the day. It usually starts with general body aches, back pain, then either nausea or a headache. I've had times where I literally had to throw up to make the pain back off. I literally did jack shit all day, because I cannot think straight with an annoying ass headache. I smoke pot every now and then specifically for headaches, and it's usually a trade off where the pain doesn't go away, but my senses are overstimulated to the point where it isn't as severe. We all metabolize what we consume differently, so pot might affect people more intensely with a gut that absorbs food well. If you're fairly tolerant of medicine's effects or alcohol, then it might be because your digestive system is impeded from actually absorbing it well enough. I would also be very skeptical of what those smoke shop guys tell you, since a lot of those people don't actually try what they sell, or even do drugs for that matter.

Though once you reach high school you do start wanting to differentiate people. Still lots of problems with the current system but it's a lot more complicated at that point
