More of these please, there's a million articles/videos on modern stuff(which I also collect) but there's a HUGE hole for ancients waiting to be filled with this media

Fascinating video. Most enlightening. Shows how history of coins is closely entwined with world history. There is not nearly enough of this type of study. It may need a college semester or two to acquire enough useful knowledge of this most fascinating subject.

A great presentation! I look forward to the second part! There are no such films on YT and I think that many lovers of ancient numismatics are waiting for them.

An excellent presentation of early coinage! Although my relatively modest collection of ancient coins is based more on a more conventionally classic esthetical point of view (ie late Vth - IVth century BC for Greek coins, Roman Imperial Ist to IIId century AD, with research of style and of quality of preservation rather than rareness), I remain fascinated by the first coinage ever in Ionia and/or Lydia and the heavy bronze cast coinage of Rome in the IVth and IIId centuries BC. Anyway, I love how numismatic science completes what ancien books and archeology can tell us about the Ancient world.

Archaic period is also before 480 BC, probably in dispute, but before 500 BC is safer I guess.

About the recent law on exporting coins, I live in Italy and I find this law absolutely a nonsense. I absolutely agree that patrimony preservation and science prevail on so called "coin collecting rights". But on the one hand, only a handfull of ancient coins yet on the market comes from documentated hoards (so it would change anything about knowledge of the past if the vast majority of the undocumented ones were "nationalized"), and on the other hand, with such a law, you let a deep gap between 1) documenting new hoards (by numismatic experts) found randomly or on an archeological site by professionals and 2) letting them loot by common people (who can then sell the coins only to unlegal dealers, who couldn't care less about history), or directly by organized crime looting units.
