Great point regarding Denzel Washington..He wasn’t rewarded with the Oscar for being a thinker as Malcolm X . But received accolades for being a bad cop..This reminds me of Marvin Gaye who made great music reflecting society at that time, What’s Going On, Save the Children, Mercy Me and he gets a Grammy for swinging his hips and singing Sexual Healing. @charleswoods98093 жыл бұрын
Toria Anderson: Thank you for tuning in. We appreciate the support of our viewers. I will not deny that you are correct when you state that I was doing some back paddling. After the constant historical investigation into the origins of racism, my conclusion is that the belief of one group of people being more "special" than another group is at the root of ethnocentrism and genocide. So, when I am discussing racism in the media, I am conflicted and guarded. I do not want to inarticulately express an idea that is contrary to my belief that people are people. An individual's behavior and character are not determined by his or her being a member of a particular group. I do not doubt that we are special people in a collective sense. However, we must be careful not to allow our need for self-esteem and self-worth to become a gateway to accepting concepts based on an ideology of group superiority and specialness. This is what inspired the concepts of "Social Darwinism", "Race", "Manifest Destiny", "The White Man's Burden", and the "Eugenics Movement". I was inspired by the teachings and mentorship of Dr. Ivan Van Sertima. He made every attempt to conduct his studies objectively. He wanted to prove that Black Africans contributed significantly to civilization's progress. He wanted to reveal how Blacks were some of the earliest pioneers in the fields of science, medicine, and mathematics. And contrary to widespread anti-Black propaganda of the past (and present), he unveiled empirical evidence that dispelled the notion of Black inferiority. However, Dr. Van Sertima was not trying to prove African superiority. He was not a racial chauvinist. He just presented the facts. And facts don't care about people. That's where my head is at. I have had some experiences that have taught me some hard lessons about the issue of race. The construct of race has plagued us for centuries. It is complex. It is multi-layered. And it requires an honest and respectful discussion. Once again, thank you for sharing your time with ReelBlack. I hope you will hang in there with us and possibly help us to grow. It is our goal to make ReelBlack a channel where one may get information that is worthy of their time and engagement. Be safe. Be well. Peace and Blessings!

Furthermore he did nothing of significance for black people in America. His "black" experience in America was the exception to the rule and mirrored more closely the experience of a African immigrant rather than a African American. He's a Kenyan American not a African American. Neither one of my parents held racist beliefs only watch what people do and protect yourself among everyone. They did not condone leaders in any form nor family members. I saw racist practices as I lived in the systems that were provided here. Blacks have discriminated against me as well as any other race. These truths about history were covertly understood but not taught anywhere I was. In college, the teaching was slanted towards the beliefs of the teachers. I find this true today. Anything can be bent for the audiences and the ability to control those people. Finance is always at the bottom of abuse in most circumstances that people face.
