He's on point. Knows his opal. Ethiopian Enhydrous are as high as 13% moisture. Less stable. BUT Ethiopians have random planes of spheres. You get play at multiple angles. The ONLY reason to put opal in water is to show you better, what it looks like polished. He's 100% on sphericals. Potch is also valuable as its sold/ used as natural backing for doublets. The natural black potch accentuates the opal better than other natural backings. Best way to differentiate lab opal? Look for repetitious patterns. They haven't found a way to randomize play of color, like natural opals. Love Aussie opals.

Already had known what gives it the different colors, particle size. Nile Red made a video of trying to make synthetic opal, and it came down to particle size that affected the blue, green, red, and other colors.😁👍

The very first piece of jewelry my husband bought me over 50 years ago was a beautiful opal ring. The setting is intricately made. We probably couldn't afford it now. We live out west now, so I wear more turquoise. I think I'll get my opal out to wear occasionally.

@@lapidarydave The good stuff never is. That's something I've learned from watching all you Gemstone Cutters, you keep the truly special stuff for yourself. I'm mainly an Opal Fan and this one has to be seen to be believed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qH_cZ5iufdmcos0&ab_channel=BlackOpalDirect I even prefer that to the Virgin Rainbow, heck I prefer it to the Hope Diamond. Green & Blue is my favourite colour combination. So there are probably a few thousand Opal Miners all the way back to the old days that have these insane Opals just in their private collection unknown to the wider world. It's almost criminal. People need to see these.

Please remeber opal is fragile and can get impact fractures shaking the dome or turning the jar endlessly when the hard edge hits the soft face. But display for sale, what else are ya gonna do, some just run their hands thru the tubs rattling all the pieces together, but hands on sells fastest.
