Nice conversation with KC the talking cockatiel. This sweet bird combines words and phrases and makes up his own new sentences; quite amazing. He also seems to have a need to let folks know he's a pretty bird! Enjoy the show.

Denise, all we did was play with him and talk to him and when he said something like "pretty bird" we repeated it back to him to reinforce how well he was talking. Sounds like you have a wonderful cockatiel and K.C. says hello!

Thanks so much for such a nice compliment. KC also has kissing and talking festivals with quite a few youtube bird celebrities. The most notable one is a ring necked conjure named Marnie. Then again, KC has kissing and talking festivals with brightly colored pieces of cloth and shiny objects...he's basically just a kisser and talker. :)

I miss my bird! his name was K.J and he was such a sweetheart! He would make the long kissing noises with you when you kissed his beak, he would start whistling and bobbing his head when you started clapping a beat for him, he would say "pretty bird", he would sing and bob his head up and down. I loved him so much! I need another one!

He is lovely. I adore him. We have a baby tiel who has learned his wolf whistle and rasps, "Baby...I love you, Baby." And he does all the clicks and noises. He isn't even a year old yet. Our Baby has something wrong with his feathers; we had a rescue cedar waxwing who had the same thing. I will not take Baby to our nearest local avian/exotic vet office in Lachine. Every time I've gone there, I end up with a dead bird, and Dr. Jean Gauvin (the esteemed vet) tells me, "Don't get budgies. Get a parrot like a senegal next time, ehn?" This goof didn't even know that budgies' ceres colours change when they pass away. Avoid this guy if you are in the Lachine area in Montreal. Dr. Gauvin is full of himself because he was once featured on a local French TV cable channel who very few watched. I loved it when he sent my beloved lovebird's carcass to me; he didn't even bother to try to close his eyes. I was upset as it was. I complained on Dr. Jean Gauvin's Facebook page about it, and he banned me from ever visiting his office again. The way he treated me over the years, first with our budgie, culminating with my Mott the Hoople, the love of my life, the lovebird? I hope he has a komodo dragon one day as a pet who needs attention, and the komodo dragon bites him right in the....

Thanks for the nice comment on KC's show, Katrina. In many ways he was self taught because our answering machine was near his cage. We did get him out a lot more when he was younger, but that was B.P.&Y (before Papillions and Yorkie). The female pups would have had him for lunch if they could. Best wishes.

So cute! I had a Cockatiel, Aussie for years. He was so smart and loved to talk. Other than the normal like pretty bird, hello, etc. I taught him to say Merry Christmas and between Christmas and New Years taught him to say Happy New Year. Had him on my home voicemail telling friends/family Merry Christmas and Happy New Year during the holidays. I sure miss him!

Rebecca, KC has a little parakeet buddy named Dandy that has a cage right next to his. They interact a lot and Dandy picked up how to wolf whistle but mostly just chirps but doesn't say any words. I had a cockatiel named Diamond who would call me Diamond pretty bird because that’s what I called her. She was smart, she ate lays potato chips sneakily while on my shoulder. I had to give her up because I was allergic to her, she got a really great home from the guy who worked at the APL. I often think about my Diamond.

How wonderful! My Tiel says his name 'Rio' (repeatedly), he says Pretty boy. And wolf whistles, and dancies. He also sings something but i can't make out what it is lol. I think it might be the Eastenders theme tune tbh! Hah. He's only 9 month and i got him at 6.5 months so i think he's doing pretty well. I love these birds so much I'm getting another - though at first they'll have separate cages.

Thank you, Gabriela. KC is the only one we've ever had that talked so probably some do and some don't. Supposedly females never talk; the ones we've had have just been screechy! :)

That's incredible, I just got a cockatiel not long ago, the fact that birds can imitate sentences and memorise songs is just mind blowing, I hope mine'll be able to do such things as time goes on :D.
