New subscriber here and I want to say how much I appreciate videos like this. I recently started using makeup as a creative outlet (was once just a lipstick girlie, mostly reds) and it has helped SO MUCH to have people like you & Hautemesstom talk about consuming & purchasing makeup the way y’all do. I resonate with the “it’s still pretty and I want it! But I don’t need it” talk here-being a mindful consumer doesn’t necessarily mean the desire for the new & pretty disappears, a thing I am still learning! 😂 ALSO I *love* this eye look. I can’t tell-is it going from a matte to a shimmer? The color combo is *chef kiss*

I love HMT and I have found these kinds of videos to be helpful to me too, so I like making them 😍 They eye look here used a couple of matte pastels shades with two shimmers layered over but the bulk of the shimmer is concentrated on the inner corner!

Ugh I also want some of these things. Especially the Asian beauty items!! But I've been pretty good about just putting them on my wishlist and letting them sit there. I made some eyeshadow palette purchases after coming off my no buy and I don't need any more rn!!! You are so right! Lip products on the other hand are harder for me to say no to rn since i have my eye on many!!

Good for you sticking to your no-buy!! I’m with you on that Black Swan palette! I have just about clicked add to bag multiple times. But then I realized most of the shadows are matte, and they would be very similar to my NatashaDenona Xenon mini or midi. And I found that I have a similar Red in another palette. So I am fine! If those had been silver satins, I would have been in trouble! 👿 😂

Ah yes this wish idea is great way to keep yourself from over consuming. Oh I LOVE Anna Sui. Her clothes are incredible and what is not to love. Ooo I had not heard of Joocye. I had not heard of Mob Beauty either, wow thanks for the introductions here. "And then they came out with something I REALLY wanted" Well at least it being sold out makes it a bit less painful. And the liquid lippies OOOOOOO. I am a big fan of Fenty. Ah this face palette looks interesting. Let us know about the Lisa Eldrige skin tint. Ooo yes the quads are FUN for sure. I’ve been on an eyeshadow no buy for a year now (it’s my only makeup category I overbought in). I got into the indie nail polish community over that year and now I’m on a low buy for polish for 2024. It’s a journey and that’s ok. I still love my eyeshadow palettes but the new releases don’t call to me the same way they used to

I'm totally there too with the Girlcult topper palette and the Flowerknows black swan palette! I can sort of justify both because I don't have a grey or a brown/neutral palette currently but I'm still holding off for now in case the desire fades out! Will see how I'm feeling later this year 👀

Our wish lists are SO similar, Ivy, down to the Hindash palette! Actually, I've been meaning to talk about this on my IG but I have a Necromancy lipstick that I purchased last year with their old packaging and my bullet has kind of hardened over time and it's hard to get it deposit color. I'll really have to speak on it on my stories and just tag you so you can see. I haven't heard of this problem happening with anyone else so it just might be an anomaly with mine.

Needed to hear this today! I’ve been struggling, I bought a lot in April but really trying to make May a real no-buy for me (sadly I don’t think I’ve ever gone a month without purchasing makeup). How do you keep track of your wishlist? I was keeping track in an album on my phone but sometimes I just add things in to my ulta loves list or save on Instagram so trying to be more organized about it. I feel like it helps to see things together and realize what is similar on my wishlist

This month (April) will be the first month in years I've gone without making any beauty purchases and it was not easy but I kept returning to a) how much joy I have when I use my makeup I already have and b) how I only feel more and more overwhelmed by the amount of makeup I already have. That did honestly help a lot. But as evidenced by this video I still think about and want more. But I also try to find new ways to inspire myself and focus on creativity, like randomly generating my look with a color generator, using an image or a color palette from a book to do a look, or redoing a celeb makeup look to keep me focused on the dopamine from creating vs buying. Also I legit have the most basic wish list (it's my most comprehensive one) where I just write the bullet down in a note on my phone. And that is where everything goes. I actually think having it as a list with no pictures helps me personally.

It’s actually a dress! I got in a rental box through Nuuly and I have to say I love it too! I feel you on the lip products front, especially because with some of the Asian beauty the price point is lower and it makes it feel more accessible. But the truth is it adds up and suddenly the wealth of too much choice makes it harder to pick an option and get ready! So I feel like the more I’ve tried to tap into that feeling the better I’ve done holding back on buying.
