Activists have taken part in a second day of protests to demand the Government end the cost-of-living and climate crisis by stopping new oil and gas.
The Just Stop Oil (JSO) group said that 250 of its supporters held marches through central London on Sunday where they disrupted traffic in shopping districts and tourist hubs before carrying out a sit-down protest on Waterloo Bridge.
A JSO spokesman said: “We will continue in civil resistance until this government takes immediate steps to meet our demand to end the cost-of-living and climate crisis by stopping new oil and gas.
“We need to start a rapid transformation to a fairer society, decided by ordinary people and paid for by those who are profiting from humanity’s destruction.”

I am 90 years old. When I was a young man with a growing family I put central heating in my house at my own expense. Then I put double glazing in at my own expense. Now these pampered young people want the government to do all these things for them at my expense. The government has no money, it is our money. Insuylate your homes with your own money like we had to do.

when you buy a house for under 2k in your late 20s and it takes a much smaller percentage of your income to pay for it...........talk is cheap. i am not on the side of these loons but your comment is out of touch. even if you only look at the average earnings vs mortgage cost, it is considerably higher now than it was in 1950. the reality is that many people today will never have "their own house" to be able to consider putting in double glazing or insulation in the first place. right now, less than 10% of people in their 30s own their own home, in 1980 that number was over 40%. there are also 50% more people in the uk since you first bought your home. there are so many factors that you have not taken into consideration. even if you take inflation into consideration the average house now costs 4x as much as it did in 1950, takes a larger chunk of income, takes longer to pay off etc etc and it really annoys me when people compare something from decades ago to today and suggest that its the same circumstances..........its like saying in 1850 people got by without cars so why do we need them now? a lot has changed in recent years......

As a child of the 70's I quite like the modern world. I remember a house with 1 coal fire in the living room which also doubled as a bathroom for my brother and myself as it was too cold in the actual bathroom. Ice on the inside of the windows, Black outs etc, etc. This toddler looks warm and well fed with his air pods talking on a laptop over the internet all thanks to the modern world and fossil fuels. He does not look like he has suffered any kind of hardship in his pampered life. To my knowledge nobody has asked me if I want to get rid of fossil fuels and go back to the 70's.

Nevertheless, things seemed to 'work better' in the 60s and early 70s - that is: House prices weren't so insanely high and interest rates weren't so insanely low. You could only get a mortgage for 2.5 to 3.5 times your income, and yet many many households managed it reasonably comfortably on just the husband's wage. Wives often worked just very low hours for a bit of extra money, and preschool children could therefore be raised at home, and then go on to attend the nearest school to their home. Feminists may complain, but it all seemed to work pretty well and overall people were less stressed, and you could earn a bit of interest on your savings. Fewer people went to university, but those that did were given 100% grants. And women could retire at 60. I don't remember autism and peanut allergies and Alzheimers (even amongst people well into their 70s) being so prevalent. We had comedians on TV that were actually funny. Now we have crippling house prices that require both partners to work full time, with preschool children therefore having to be raised in extortionately-priced nurseries, before going on to attend a school across the other side of town, necessitating two cars per household and the crazy crazy schoolrun traffic and parking jams. Fifty percent of school-leavers now go to university, but there aren't 50% of jobs that need a degree, leaving many graduates demoralised and in massive debt. The 'tech' may be better these days, but many other aspects are worse.

It is common sense; if you would like your home insulated, then get a job and insulate your home. What am I missing ? Also, they should fine them heavily for blocking traffic, and keep them in jail until those fines are paid. They do not have jobs, and their parents (whom they surely still live with) will get very tired of paying their fines. These people are in no place to make " demands". We are at least 100 years away from having commercial planes that can fly across the oceans without using fossil fuels. The same goes for large ships that transport all of our products and consumables, so these people need to face reality. The electrical grid can not handle it, and this fake climate agenda is completely BS and without proof backing up their claims.

So they want wind turbines, requiring many tonnes of plastic for each blade which only comes from crude oil, how do we build turbines without oil? We don't.....many tonnes of copper for each turbine that can only be dug out the earth and is also a finite resource, many tonnes of cobalt lithium etc which again can only he dug out the earth and a finite resource So without the oil we can't make the plastic for turbines, can't dig the mineral resources out the ground as they require massive excavation machinery to dig up, and transportation out of remote places where an electric vehicle won't do the job Why don't these ppl see its all a big con job? U can't make renewables without fossil fuels, that will never change, every turbine needs massive amounts of plastic, which need fossil fuels And that doesn't even get into what would replace the plastics in our lives? The plastics that make things lighter and so more efficient or more convenient? Our plastic windows? Gutters? Plastics that house small electrical components? Plastic can be recycled once then its only good for cheap clothing, without fossil fuels it could become one of the rarest things around, yes there may be alternatives we don't know about but we need to find them before killing the current supply

Thing is, here in the US, a trucking company wanted to convert to complete EV semi-trucks. They were located near a town of 50,000. So the trucking company asked the local government for the go-ahead to build the charging infrastructure, using the local power utility to build the infrastructure. The local power utility said no, after they said that the power consumption of the trucking company would equal that of the entire 50,000-person population -- in essence, the power utility would have to supply double the power, with fully 50% going to the trucking company. At the end, the municipality denied the trucking company the permits to build a charging infrastructure for a full EV trucking fleet. And thing is, a car has a 1500 lb. battery pack -- while a big rig semi truck has an 8000 lb. battery pack. And that's a Tesla semi truck.
