“Something Is Being Covered Up Here” Starmer Insists £20k Accommodation Freebie Was For Son To Study

Sir Keir Starmer has suggested he accepted £20,000 in donations for accommodation because his son needed somewhere to revise for his GCSEs while his family home was besieged by journalists during the election campaign.
The Prime Minister defended his decision to take gifts from Labour peer Lord Alli amid criticism of the arrangement, saying he was “not going to apologise for not doing anything wrong” and the freebies did not “cost the taxpayer a penny”.
But Sir Keir signalled he could continue to accept hospitality from donors, saying that it was a matter of “judgment” for individual MPs whether they receive certain kinds of donations.
Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan and Isabel Oakeshott discuss the ongoing row. Isabel says: “They stayed there well after the exam season… There’s something we’re not being told here… Something doesn’t add up.”

It's not the free clothes that has irked me the most: it's the things Starmer has said about accepting £20K in donations for accommodation because his son needed somewhere to revise for his GCSE's. Starmer said "'But if you're a 16-year-old trying to do your GCSEs and it's your one chance in life - I promised him we would move somewhere, get out of the house and go somewhere where he could be peacefully studying...." What about the kids who were happy and doing well in their independent schools but who have had to leave because their parents couldn't afford the 20% VAT? People send their children to independent schools for more than one reason - it's not always about the academics. For some who have had to leave, their school might have been their haven and their "one chance in life" too. The hypocrisy of a man who couldn't care less about the upheaval other children might suffer bleating on about his own son's "one chance in life" makes me sick!

On Jacob Rees Mogg's programme on GB News he pointed out that Lord Ali is very exercised by the freedom of the Press and has tried to curb it. I am over pensionable age and continue to work out of choice and pay my taxes. I find it very frustrating and quite wrong that well paid politicians can claim heating allowances on thier second homes and get numerous perks in the House of Commons from the taxes I pay when they are depriving pensioners of their heating payments. In my view, government should be paying the heating bills of low income pensioners and give tax relief for those who can afford to pay for heating themselves. Billions of GbP are being spent on ideological projects that are of little or no advantage - and even to the detriment - of the vast majority of people of this country.
