The new Labour government plans to end BBC licence fee prosecutions, which disproportionately affect women. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy and Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood agree that failing to pay the £169.50 fee should no longer be a criminal offense.
Currently, nearly 1,000 people are prosecuted weekly, with over two-thirds being women. A senior government source told The Times that enforcing the fee isn’t worth the administrative burden on taxpayers.

Daft idea: lots of people will stop paying for it so those of us who do pay will have to pay more. The BBC does need to be reorganized. Scrap the World Service. The reason why women get prosecuted more than men is that on average there are more women at home than men, so if the Licence fee hasn’t been paid, women are more likely to be court watching live TV without a license, the moral of the story is if you’re watching live TV pay your TV licence.
