I was fortunate to have had an education with teachers like Ms Singh is giving to her pupils. She has her priorities right- snd will stop children becoming ignorant. My oldest child had a similar education aa I, the other three got progressively more sloppy educations. Two needed a lot of assistance with the basics that they were not getting in school. Because we could (just) afford to pay fir this assistance and I insisted on their doing extra work, they did OK! One of them is now an award winning engineer, the other a doctor. . All of them have social consciences and are horrified that we are failing less privileged children.

I had a social phobia, aged seven, l hid it because no one including my mother who was a schoolteacher understood. I made myself ilI not to go to school then ran out of ideas to avoid school, etc. Schoolteacher like to think they are understanding and caring, but I had no one to turn to, then and later. There are flaws in teacher training that should be addressed. They get lots of perks like expensive trips abroad Which are free if they take pupils, etc , ( and the can take family members if they don't do it too often). The stress levels, I agree they are high, can be higher in other occupations and I think they are a bit greedy over pay. There are people whose home is only shop doorways and feel for them and plan to do something about it and try to help if I can.

The headmistress is so right 👍 Teachers are there to teach traditional elements which is a full time job in the first place. How is it suddenly a teachers job to teach the basic elements to a whole classroom and then take another spurious agenda on board which may not even be their own belief. As long as children and people are respectful to each other as a matter of course, children will tap into that and don’t need brainwashing for some doctrine that has just been sprung upon society as the gentleman said ‘when we weren’t looking’.

I finding it interesting that when one reads letters written in the last century by working class people who had a basic education and left school at fourteen, they are usually quite eloquent with good spelling. I refer to letters sent home by young lads in WW1 and ones that survive in my family. It says a lot about the education of today.

Children are coming out of schools without basic skills in grammar, maths and science, but an obsession with "their rights"! One thing I have constantly had to remind teenagers in my world (in Australia) is that not only do 'they' have rights, but so do 'others'! They are usually quite stunned by that revelation! It's all about them and very little about others! In my day we had Social Studies and Religious Education, where we learnt about ethical and moral issues and human rights, which seemed to stand us in good stead for becoming reasonable adults.

I've seen this lady at her school...shame that all schools can't be like her....there's a serious lack of discipline in any schools. I've got a good idea...if you're a trouble making kid at school, disruptive, couldn't give as toss about anything or anybody..then tie this attitude and behaviour against their welfare record in the fuiture...so if they carry it on into their unwillingness to work then they get nothing.

It's our responsibility as adults to lead the way and teach the children. They are the newbies. What do they understand about appropriate behaviours? They can question and look for new experiences on which to build an understanding about life but they cannot be the ones to lead the way.

So I was taught critical thinking. This was through history (critical analysis of historical evidence) and through debating. The art of debating and taking on an argument you may completely disagree with but have to find an argument for I think should be part of the curriculum.

Atm it's quite easy to see when an essay is written by A.I. - there are many faults in the language. Schools job is to prepare children with skills for life maths, English (a second lanquage), technology and science and maybe DIY and basic business skill. Keep politics and agendas out of the classroom. Children should be allowed to think for themselves and have opinions accepted.

I REALLY despise hearing teachers refer to schoolchildren as THEIR kids. You don't own them sweetheart, they are not your patients or property, they are students. You are merely there to educate them and serve society. It's a worrying mindset to have anybody display this level of ownership over somebody else's children, as this is how this WOKE crap entered into schools. @@stuartbeecham2830 Was born and raised in the UK but immigrated to the US and now an American citizen. Schools vary widly in the US and are controlled at the local level. Here in Texas the schools our sons go to are excellent, Stars and Stripes flies outside every school and is in every classroom, students say the Pledge of Allegiance every day and there's a high degree of discipline, rules are enforced with paddling available as a disciplinary option. It's night and day compared to the schools the kids of relatives go to back in the UK. Agree, DeSantis is the favorite for the GOP presidential nominee for 2024 and I look forward to voting for him.
