The Talks at Google program and Black Googlers Network (BGN) were proud to host Grammy-award winning recording artist and actress, Brandy, for an exclusive moderated talk and audience Q&A, in honor of BGN's Black History Month, revolving around this year's theme, "Mapping the Past, Searching the Present, and Inventing the Future." On February 25, 2013, Brandy stopped by Google's Mountain View, CA office to discuss her career in music and acting and how technology plays a major part in connecting Brandy with her fans.

When the lady was talking to Brandy about her vocal arrangements, years ago when I first started to listen to her music, I also always wanted to know if she did them all herself....bcuz it sounded so damn good.....especially the harmonies and backgrounds.

Best interview of Brandy in a long time. So wonderful to see such a diverse group of people display so much love and support for her. I am also very interested to see about these changes at Google....I guess this their answer to AOL's entertainment brands and more specifically Black Voices. I see it more as a focus on culture rather than race.

Something that stood out to me is @ 8:20 when she says that she did not write any of the songs. This stood out to me because I feel like she is a great singer and the album is great which is true. But I feel like if she actually wrote a few of her own songs it would be a hit and you will be able to feel the passion alot more because it's real and sincere because it was straight from the heart.

BGN is an affinity group. In Corporate America, affinity groups, provide forums for employees to gather socially and share ideas outside of their particular business units. In addition to racial, ethnic-background & gender-based affinity groups, there are also affinity groups that bring together employees based on country of origin, religion, physical disabilities, military service, age, sexual orientation, etc.

In the US & other countries, black is not only the name of a race but a shorter term to acknowledge the large variety of ethnicities within that race. Black culture (in the americas) have prominent figures who are Canadian, US, Jamaican, Trini, Brazillian, etc. and all of us are linked through a shared history (i.e. african diaspora via the slave trade). b/c of that the "Black or Afro" term serves as the grouping of all of us as a mega culture while still respecting the sub-ethnicities within.

Yeah Slow Love was a little weak which is probably why it was never released. But Beyonce and Brandy I believe are friends via Kelly Rowland and there is a rumor going around that Brandy is working on a 2014 album so let's keep our fingers cross that both Kelly Rowland and Beyonce will be on that album.

I think the desire to be seperate is something that the vast majority (if not all) human clutures still suffer from. It's a hangover from our humble beginnings as less complex mammals. It seems no-one wants to make the first move because they're afraid of exploitation &/or revenge. Are these fears rational? Sometimes yes, but in the case of the people who created BGN (presumably relatively wealthy & safe), i really can't see the need for self-protection through 'seperate-ness'... peace & love.

I get the Veterans group because it's a shared background and experiences.. which is colorless. Calling it black is just wrong. I think America is to fixated in separations between colors. Subconsciously it does more than you think. Subconsciously it says that black people have different opinions and interests than other colors, which is wrong, it's about the cultural background and not about color. Just saying words are powerful.

lol i understand. Most black people wouldn't even try to understand what your saying because they still have that "the man is trying to bring us down" attitude. so we made all these associations that are only for blacks which is mostly great because we need to have a voice, but excluding all other races is not making us equal it's making us compete in a way. We have to do things cohesively as a human race in order to progress.

I don't understand why America has BET and BGN now. Isn't the whole purpose to not differentiate by color? If anything at all use a cultural background name... this is not defined by a color, but by a way of living and thinking.
@jamiebrownmaxwell
@jamiebrownmaxwell 11 жыл бұрын
The problem with creating a group 'Black Googlers Network' is that it's a quick fix, rather than a real solotion. If the main network is inaccessable or unwelcoming to Black culture then this type of further seperation (although seemingly harmless on a surface level) is only going to make those problems worse. As another commentor eluded to, the idea of a 'White Googlers Network' is ridiculous & ten steps backwards. BGN might not be a step backwards, but it's not a step forwards either. peace.

@iloverette
@iloverette 9 жыл бұрын
+Domoneak Rucker Is it actually THAT "weird"? I mean, do you remember the specific ins-and-outs of your childhood? Your daily routine and what-not? I know I don't. I just remember how I FELT during specific moments. Plus this woman has been working nooooooon-stop since she was a kid so I'm sure she has tons of special moments. She's done tons of acting projects and shows, recorded hundreds of songs (most of which are unreleased)....so can you fault her for not knowing the words of one particular song from the top of her head? ...I guess I could see if she was performing at a show that she was supposed to rehearse for and didn't know the lyrics....but she was asked to pick out random memories or sing a specific song from her long ass catalogue...
