Crime is a very subjective concept. This is because laws are different from country to country and these same laws change over time.

Is crime really falling though? Or just becoming more and more complex?
@Iloveashu99 Жыл бұрын
I would say it would be a bit of both. The society we live and set rules or laws in is rapidly changing so what we define as a crime and punishable is becoming more complex. It could also be that what used to be defined crime is being prevented due to awareness and precautions adapted by people. So the original crime are pretty much solved i.e laws are set for it ,(such as assualt , theft, homicide, kidnapping)but the rise of the new functioning society lead to new crimes that the orginal laws, rules or values can't solve. So crimes haven't really reduced but have manifested differently with the new era.( such as abortion issues, child Custody and such .... ) Though I could be wrong as I do not have profound knowledge on this area.

well this 4 years old lecture didn't age well. In the past 3 years the US has widely enacted the soft on crime policies based on these ideas that incarceration and policing don't reduce crime, and what do you know, crime is back on the rise. This unfortunately is what happens when one studies crime from one's comfort of a ivory tower.

nope. crime is that behaviour or lack of behaviour which results in harm to another.

3:40 😵3 minutes into the talk my eyes are getting heavy.. for the life of me, is there anyone alive that can make this subject come ‘alive’ / interesting? Now I know why I love medical science 🧫 🧪 🧬 and spent most of my life dedicated to it; still the ‘curiosity’ does not leave me. Maybe 🤔 the focus takes too long.. “what is criminology “ almost 10 min later.
