2019 marks the 20th anniversary of what is arguably one of the best Science fiction movies ever made - The Matrix. It popularized an ancient idea that the world we live in may not be real. In other words, our world is just an illusion, a simulation -- a video game.
So, Are we really living in a video game?
Game industry veteran Rizwan (Riz) Virk believes this could be true.
Rizwan (“Riz”) Virk is a successful entrepreneur, angel investor, bestselling author, video game industry pioneer, and indie film producer. Virk currently runs Play Labs @ MIT (www.playlabs.tv) a startup accelerator for playful technologies held on campus at the MIT Game Lab and Bayview Labs (www.bayviewlabs.com).
Virk’s books include: Startup Myths and Models: Secrets They Don't Teach You at Stanford Business School, from Columbia University Press (2020), Zen Entrepreneurship: Walking the Path of the Career Warrior (2013), and Treasure Hunt: Follow Your Inner Clues to Find True Success (2017).
Virk’s video games have been played by millions, including Tap Fish, and games based on TV shows like Penny Dreadful and Grimm. Virk has been an investor in many video game companies, including Telltale Games (creator of narrative games based on The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones), Disruptor Beam (creator of Star Trek: Timelines game), Pocket Gems, Tapjoy, Sliver.tv, and Discord.

'Everything happens for a reason' takes on a whole new slant when considered within the framework of the simulation theory. Almost a leftover remnant of 'what to remember when the simulation kicks in'. 'DON'T PANIC'.

I liked your example of how any instrument used to measure the "simulation" is also a product of the "simulation". That metaphor can be extended to the example of video games. No matter where you search within whatever fantastic realm, that any particular video game fabricates, you will never find a single clue as to the actual structure or source of the video game itself. NO video game possesses the actual "off/on switch" or "power source" needed to "stop/start it", or "source code" needed to change it. You must possess "extra operator access" in order to accomplish any of those functions, which can only be acquired outside of the "virtual reality". So the question remains: Since, we as players, actually exist beyond this simulation, what steps are we required to take, for us to regain that awareness of ourselves beyond this "game"? This is the subject of "wisdom teachings" conveyed by many teachers... So if you are driving one of those cars in that "racing game", pull over, hop the rail, then trudge across the large field and climb to the top of that Fuji-like mountain.... it is waiting for you there .. heh heh! ;-)

THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS YOGA. YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH YOGA WITH A REAL GURU. THEN YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH PRACTICE OF ANIMAL SACRIFICE TO FULLY INMERSE IN THAT AWARENESS. YOU DONT HAVE TO KILL 100 ANIMALS. I BET WILL BE LESS THAN WHAT YOU EAT DAILY. THEN YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH PHYSICAL POSSESION ON AND OFF. NEVER ABANDON YOGA AND NEVER ABANDON MATHEMATICS. THAT IS HOW YOU BECOME AWARE. THIS IS A SIMULATION THAT DOESNT WANT TO KNOWN BUT WE EXISTENCIAL HACKERS DO EXIST. WE ARE REAL. I AM AN SPIRITUAL MEDIUM AND YEARS AGO I UNDERSTOOD THAT I EITHER AN ERROR IN THE SIMULATION OR A SORT OF HACKER. DEFINITELY WE LIVE IN A SIMULATION AND IF YOU STUDY THE VEDAS YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THAT HINDU GODS ARE CYBERNETIC GODS. THAT IS THEIR TRUE NATURE. I WISH YOU A GOOD JOURNEY.

There were two problems with the book, Riz did not deal adequately with the problem of infinite regress regarding the Ancestor simulation hypothesis he skimmed over it. He went into detail about reincarnation but made no mention of the Eternal Return see Videos and books by Anthony Peake on that subject. Peake talks about the Daemon/Eidolon dyad the Daemeon is the game player this is your higher self and the eidolon is the avatar. Peake argues when the avatar dies its then reborn and plays the game of life all over again this is Eternal Recurrence as referenced by Nietzsche and others. The Idealism championed by Bernardo Kastrup (a computer scientist) et al is the correct interpretation we are not in a computer we are in a Mind and that Mind dreams the world and everything in the world. Regarding bugs the Mandela effect is strong evidence for the simulation argument, some want to dismiss it as faulty memory but I have a strong memory and have experienced it several times.

The mandala effect has nothing to do with it. And it’s actually memory thing cuz it happened to me but I can rot relapse that I was wrong. For every simulation-verse, the energy would be provided by its creators. That would, sort of mean an infinite number of simulation-verse, one nested inside a computer world created by its creators, requiring almost infinite amount of energy as we move up the ladder. If that is not the case then there must be some physics involved in the maximum number of simulation-verse present at any moment.

One hypothesis i would like to make is that everybody is living in their own universe. The universe you see around you , would therefore be your own universe where you are a PC and everyone around you is a NPC. So your goal in life, is to cross over your obstacles in your life, that you find in your universe. This also means that from time to time, one or the other NPCs in your universe will interact with you to help you cross over certain obstacles. It is a given that the sentient being or beings outside of the simulation have the power to influence your universe, but not make decisions for you , because that would change the rules by which the universe exists as your universe, where you are its center and authority, which is the basis of free will.

Your description of the NPC vs RPG versions of the "Simulation Hypothesis" tracks neatly to the 2 major opposing philosophies, "Idealism" (of Plato) and "Materialism" (of Democritus). Idealism: Says that consciousness is ultimately what is real, with all "objects" emerging from consciousness, existing inside consciousness, and is dependant upon consciousness. Materialism: Says that particles are ultimately what's real with consciousness emerging from particles, existing because of particles, and is dependent upon particles. Democritus was the philosopher that coined the term "atom". This is just an oversimplified model. The "Idealism" model, or the "RPG model of Simulation Hypothesis", contains ideas at its heart, that are also contained in the very core of Hindu religions (include Buddhism too). The "Materialism" model, or the NPC model of "Simulation Hypothesis", contains ideas at its heart that are contained in the very core of the "Atheistic mechanistic" view of reality.

If the premise that we live in a simulation supposedly controlled by one of those mentioned external agents, then how far can our own assessment done within that simulation that we live within a simulation be true ? Hence, either we don’t live in a simulation at all or we do live in one but there are no external agents to co tell what we perceive fully in which case how does it matter if we indeed live in one ?

24:10 - But isn't there a big difference between "rendering" the observable part of a world and actually "simulating" the world as in: sure you can only render what you can see to reduce the GPU load but you'd also have to update the state (on CPU usually) of the world for parts which are not visible. Else, their state would not make sense as soon as you observe it later. Or would you keep their state at all possible deterministic solutions and solve these as soon as an observation takes place? Meaning that the calculactions needed would "explode" as soon as you visit a place/part of the world which wasn't visited a longer time. This could work, locally, as loading levels or speeding up time in a video game are somewhat similar, but for massive scale phenomena like cosmic events, the computational power to actually determine the current state would be unimaginable as soon as a single observer decides to "take a look". Maybe that's why there is a maximum speed, the speed of light, as carrier of information to somewhat balance between the need for computational power and the massive scale of our observable universe or in other words the render distance (far plane) of our (personal) world renderer camera :D

@Rafloka
@Rafloka 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikkel715 you're correct. I spend many hours to wrap my head around quantum mechanics over the last years (surely not to say I fully understood everything of course). And I think I get the quantum entanglement example as kind of information compression and decompression as soon as it is needed (observed). As well as the Planck length as possible indication of a bit-like lowest or smallest sample of information (i.e. the pixel comparison). Maybe it was just the expression of "rendering" as such as I find rendering in computer graphics quite straightforward in terms of the logical processes behind it (not to say "easy" to do) compared to quantum mechanics or the complexity implications of Bostrom's Simulation Argument. But of course, the algorithms (and the hardware they run on) of such a simulation would be vastly more enhanced than anything we have today. Btw, I always love when video games are used metaphorically to describe something else or something very hard to understand. I hope you have a nice day btw :)

@@Rafloka Quantum Mechanics is Weirdness, with the capital 'W' But from a programming point of view, much of it makes good logic. --- By the way, for quantum entanglement. If a particle from a supernova in Andromeda gets measured in detail by a physicist. It might force the simulation to execute quadrillions of calculations, due to the fact that this particular supernova has only been calculated on a macroscopic scale. But take the same particle from the supernova. Let it interact with another single particle in space. Does that need quadrillions calculations? - No. Just put a reference to that second particle, if the second particle should be measured. And here we have Quantum Entanglement. I used to be that bad by looking at all this nonsense. Just don't give in to these weirdos, no matter how smart they may sound or how much scientific jargon they say you're only believing them from your fear. Control it. Do the 1 month ressist and focus on only good things and talking with people. Do it and never come back to this dark corner of the internet again. Wishing you good luck and blessings.

Back in 1991 or 92 I specifically remember Budweisser being spelt with two s's. I know it for a fkin fact. I used to comment on it to my friends and joke about it. It used to be written in script and it wrapped around the can diagnoly. I used to joke to myself, ahh they put two s's on there so it fit the whole circumference of the can. One night me and my buddy went up on a mad sketchy roof, drinking Budweisser none the less. I was petrified of heights. Straight up petrified. That night I conquered my fear. To this day I still dont remember how I got down from the roof and we were not drunk at all. We split a 6 pack between us. That was the last day I remembered it being spelled with two s's. I go over rental properties a bit and take care of them and flip homes. One property in particular has a pool and we put a cover on it every year for a good 7 - 8 months. Over the years squirrels and rodents would make tiny holes in the cover. Every year the amount of holes are different and of course it got progressively worse where there were many holes. One year it had almost no holes at all. No shit, i'm looking at the cover like where the F are all the holes?. I notice things like this. I did a lot of lsd when I was younger. I don't know if that has something to do with it. Ever run into people you were really close with or knew well but years have passed? I talk to people and they repeat stuff I told them years ago but this time they repeat it as if it was their own opinion and state it as fact. See I have a fantastic weird memory that sometimes vividly remembers seemingly meaningless conversations from decades ago. i just sit there nodding as they talk. Jumping through dimensions after conquering major fear or conquering a huge goal seems to dimension shift us. Im babbling, anyways, peace.

At 7:34 Virk says “it’s not so much about the resolution, it’s about the responsiveness of the technology that makes us believe”. There has to be a lower threshold of some sort, though. It would be interesting to generate games with ultra realistic interaction at lower and lower resolutions to find where the acceptable threshold lies, then to analyze brain activity at just above that threshold. In other words, lower visual data to its minimum. I wonder if that would be worthwhile. This is one of the funnest simulation talks I’ve seen.

The way I view it, what if we ourselves are AI? And once we discover what the "above world" is after from the simulation we have fulfilled our purpose.. Once we recognise this we become "self aware". Obviously time in our world could run far far far faster than in the real world, 1 billion years in ourworld could be seconds in the real world. The observers paradox is just simply.. memory optimization. Or maybe in the "real world" above, we have put ourselves in this simulation to start from fresh, because we have mastered technology in the real world, and have no other purpose - so this is a way to pass time and keeps our minds occupied. Everytime the simulation creates another simulation, this would be like an infinite sandbox within a sandbox.. Man I love watching this stuff, it keeps my imagination alive, as Richard Feynman stated, it's fun to imagine

It's much easier to create a brain than a brain simulation. Similarly, it's much easier for us to be software patterns in a universal neural network than for us to be viewing a computer simulation of the universe. Many religions and philosophies have this concept of the Logos - the universal neural network.

How quantum thinking is something special 🌔✨ After the Fukushima disaster 2011, I began collecting minds at CrazyLa AirG, referring to myself as a "quantum mechanist". The science/pseudoscience was still so new quantum physicists were still being picked on for calling themselves scientists. *Shrugs*. So I grabbed it & claimed it. Quantum is no persons or company's intellectual property. *Pats myself on the chest*. Mine. & I spoke it like a 1st language. More. Like it were my very teeth. 💃🕺 I weigh up everything i think & anything that's said to me for potential depth of life within. Quantum ideas don't feel as though they need to be weighed. It feels as though quantum thinking might take delight in the sustained joy of quantum thinkers. It makes me laugh so hard I sometimes cry. It can make me freeze & not breath at all in awe. Whilst i enjoy charting the mind, it will be just like my quantum thinking mind to both bridge gaps & open doors, but then walk through walls anyway as well. It might be a unique perk that quantum thinking may construct pathways through the mind, just ahead of the thoughts that would establish them. *Feels like I've arrived somewhere way too early, in way too bright a dress*. *Walks up to the jukebox & pops on tunes & lights* All I write is free. 🌔 ⛓️💃 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIfNpJWbp92oa5o kzbin.info/www/bejne/ema8YmSerM-AhNU kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6TRlpqLrLOghrs 🥂If I were to collect minds, reduce the degrees of separation betwixt us to disenfranchise flailers & reduce degrees between them, might I help cause a ripple effect of flailers? Might that the mentality of the flailing solipsistic be ..to ebb 😉. That they ebb, is it a sign that we flow forward? ..I tend to think particles of philosophers, who when walking singularly into crowded rooms only see eachother, over ones who make friends for reasons other than they respect them who I regard as a wave. I regard philosophers as particles, having wondered that like we were the culmination of the 5 we're closest to, ..were stars also. And I thought, what might it be like never to know that stars (like men) don't all look like one another. Might one day, if reviewed & redescribed as history expands as does universe & we change beneath & including our noses as truth faster than light stubs us so fast our wicks hadn't burnt yet, thinkers had sat bright in the places of ones who'd have had no explanation ..all along? Does creation walk hand in hand with evolution 👫? Does it matter to know that 2 different critical ideas have more in common with eachother than 2 exact same ideas had based on others say so, to see if our fates to either ebb or flow could be incorporated into our very design? ..again, if truth were to move faster than light? Right now we are the greatest difference of builds of soul as we've ever been. Covid accentuated us, all the flailers & problem solvers for due to our very different mentalities we've become evident to one another. 🙂 *Splits the sea*. All I write is free 💨⛵ Krystel Spicer Mind Ark FB🌊 . . . . . . . . . . Krystel Spicer Mind Ark Reality As Meta Data Is the world noumenal or phenomenal? Is reality external to the mind or do we create it mentally as a convincing illusion? Neither option is convincing. If reality is objective and discernable only as synthetic truths, why do words have such an impact on us? If solipsism is a valid approach why are human problems so intractable. Reality as Meta-Data offers a different possibility and opens a new way of understanding reality in the faith versus nature debate. www.academia.edu/45153692/Reality_as_Meta_Data KSMA Response: Is solipsism a valid approach though, if someone experiencing solipsism is characterised by feeling lonely, detached & indifferent to the outside world & is not as impacted by words? If truth is synthetic then yes why would they have such an impact on us (the ones of us who aren't suffering solipsism at least😉)?. Could it stand to reason, that of the two types of people, it would be easiest to think reality is objective to who would wonder we had no explanations? Human problems may be hard to deal with if a person cannot discern between 2 things. I think freedom of choice, is the freedom to relinquish life & be ignored doing it. The freedom of someone making choices (who cannot gauge that anything has life let alone one of us more than the other), is also to drag down anyone with them who entertains them. I give thanks to Jesus for offering us forgiveness if we should ask, & for dying for my and your sins, because it leaves me more time to conduct a ripple effect via a Disenfranchisment of minds. Who could believe our purpose could be enmeshed with our very beings as history expands as does universe? So that some practice honesty (🔑) & be familiar to other minds in crowded rooms degrees of separation between them, & some others not, & be without as if holding their souls at arm's length from them. When people do that, i don't think reality is meta data. I wonder it would be counterintuitive to think we are meta data, if ones who would naturally think that would would be slight in build of soul. I think reality it is sufficient unto itself😉. Are some "not", & "without", & are condescending & discouraging because they're ebbing? The worse people become, will it be evident by the clusters of them all trying to look as though they've builds of soul enough between them for you not to tell a one of them from the other? Will their attempt to conceal themselves be futile, because it is their fate to reveal themselves for all intents & purposes. They are their own tell-tale canary-in-the-mine. Have you ever seen one turn tables so much that they do a complete roll reversal with you? Might it just so happen, they will wish they never twisted truth when they're themselves are twisted against it one day. Much of what those suffering solipsism do out of inconsideration for us, are mixed blessings😉. That they are friends with people for reasons other than they trust them, teaching that to show respect to anyone is to act friendly to them, tells me they're in a current, & that it is good. Had they not suffered solipsism, this would not be happening. That they did, is it happening beyond anyone's control. (Except that I like to push a little bit😉.) To your 1st & second question, I'd say both equally, for it makes sense to me that creation must walk hand in hand with evolution. Always a pleasure talking with you Robert Burk . . . . . . . . . .

If my consciousness corresponds only to the state of my neurons, and we have the technology to copy this state and reupload it somewhere else : Will I have 2 consciousnesses ? Of course not ! will I be transferred into the second consciousness ? No, why should I be ? Will another consciousness be created, one that will have the same state ? Yes, but it won't be me. Conclusion : The state of my neurons is not the only thing that must be downloaded in order to be uploaded somewhere else. It is not because we can understand mathematically and physically the universe that the universe is just mathematic and physics. I believe everything starts with a purpose.

In the first chapter of St John's gospel in the Christian Bible it is stated that God created the universe through his Word, and the Greek for this is logos, related to the word logic or the Greek word roughly translated as thought. The Bible and traditional Christian theology teach that the logos is the Divine self expression of God, and himself also co-equal and co-internal with God, and therefore also God the same and yet distinct. The beginnings of trinitarian theology. In patristic text the Holy Spirit is seen as having an actualizing role in creation. So that the father is consciousness that brings forth the logos, or information, which is interpreted and brought to realization by the Holy Spirit. In the creation narrative found in the Book of Genesis, we have the spirit of God seen as hovering over the primordial Waters, at which point God speaks, or communicates information if you will, and the world is created. The logos is like a wave-function state, and the Holy Spirit is like consciousness or measurement that brings about wave-function collapse to produce a definitive reality. So even in Christianity the world is made of information, interpreted by and proceeding forth from consciousness. In this case Jesus Christ, the incarnate logos is seen as human incarnation of the fundamental information from which the universe is brought into existence.

In an interview Rizwan Virk has claimed (talking about the example of Schrödinger’s cat), "The cardinal rule is the universe renders only that which needs to be observed". This is simply NOT a correct understanding of quantum indeterminacy! What Schrödinger's thought experiment suggests is that the *state* of the cat (poisoned by an event in time) can be both dead and alive at the "same time" for two observers! This does NOT mean that the cat itself is "rendered" only when it "needs to be observed"! The cat exists for certain (for all observers!) -- whether or not observed! What is uncertain is the exact "time" of its demise! And we do know that "time" is relative! J Bronowsky, in his book, "Common Sense of Science" suggests that it is more appropriate to refer to Heisenberg's law as the "Principle of Tolerance", rather than the "Principle of Uncertainty"! Because, it is not that reality is uncertain. It is that we can *observe* reality only within a tolerance band of certainty. That is, we can be reasonably certain, provided we specify the tolerance range of the certainty!
