A fireside chat with Toni Morrison, hosted by Torrence Boone from the Google New York office. In her latest book "Home," Ms. Morrison extends her profound take on our history with this twentieth-century tale of redemption: a taut and tortured story about one man's desperate search for himself in a world disfigured by war.
Frank Money is an angry, self-loathing veteran of the Korean War who, after traumatic experiences on the front lines, finds himself back in racist America with more than just physical scars. His home may seem alien to him, but he is shocked out of his crippling apathy by the need to rescue his medically abused younger sister and take her back to the small Georgia town they come from and that he's hated all his life. As Frank revisits his memories from childhood and the war that have left him questioning his sense of self, he discovers a profound courage he had thought he could never possess again. A deeply moving novel about an apparently defeated man finding his manhood-and his home.

She is brilliant, charming, witty, funny, and beautiful. Not just a physical beauty although it’s obvious but a beauty that’s internal. A light that radiates within her. I just want to hug her. I love Toni Morrison!

Started this novel the day before she passed and just finished it. I'm just floored by the timelessness of her work and the freshness of her perceptions. How she associates and plays with the known to bring us somewhere new. What a blessing it is to read her work.

I've never even realized until she pointed it out here that she doesn't really describe her characters appearance that much bc I've never had a problem not seeing them. I have always saw them so vibrantly in my mind. I am a white female and my mother introduced her to me when I was around 14 and I have been in love ever since.

She knows the secrets of the universe and you would think someone who knows the secrets of the universe would think the rest of us who don’t are beneath her. You think it would be exasperating to talk to anyone else and it must be but instead she embraces us and says. Let me show you. Let me share with you.

I really loved seeing how down to earth she is. -Torrence Boone- Great job interviewing and my god, so sexy. I'm a big fat person just like Toni Morrison. Toni gives me hope and inspiration that I too may live well into my 80's before I die. Toni Morrison died in her 88th year and I believe her weight here when she was about 82 years was approximately 260 pounds.

@@MM_Cele I do watch what I eat. I eat healthy, except for pizza night. I could write my own book on "pizza night". Beyond that, I eat fresh fish, sushi, etc. I drink juices but no alcohol. I know skinny people who eat more than I do. I just can't seem to keep it off. I'm great on a bicycle. So, I do get my fair share of exercise. People tell me that I'm the most nimble fat person on a bike they've ever seen. It's true. One thing I don't like though is when teenagers and young adults in their twenties scream at me out their car windows as they pass me by: They yell at me, "Hey fatso!" I wonder why it's always the word "Fatso" they choose to you. I may look fat, but I don't feel fat.

Much as I adore Miss Morrison, I have to say that at +/- 28:00 lies some serious hyperbole ie. That a book costs a month's salary in Africa. Her most recent book 'A Mouth Full of Blood" sold for R300 in Joburg Mall... No one earns R300 a month, as a general matter.
