Arteta did a great job making Arsenal competitive and that's proof he can do it again, so I think he should be afforded the opportunity to get this squad in the right direction, BUT, he's also spent A LOT of money and they've gone backwards which has to be a criticism of the past couple of years. Transfer business has been very poor and it's a bit of a joke how reliant they are on set pieces. A damning indictment and I don't know how much time he has left... Big decision for the board this summer because they probably need to back him if he stays, but there's an argument that another manager deserves a chance. If they don't get this right, Chelsea will totally overtake them because that squad's only going to get better and better

As things stand, they have a guy in the dugout that has shown he's capable of turning it around (closing the gap on City was no mean feat). Grass is greener on the other side and all that. Their actual playing squad that Maresca's working with rn cost 850m and they sold around 450m to help build it so the net spend to assemble Arsenal's playing squad is more than Chelsea's That first transfer window with Boehly as sporting director was such a mess (he had to take the reins as the club purchase was fast-tracked due to sanctions), but after all of that, turning a club that was in decline to one currently in the ascendency in such a short period of time (look at how long it took Liverpool and Arsenal under Klopp and Arteta, while United are still struggling) is a massive credit to the job Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart and Joe Shields have done since they were appointed. It looked like madness but these guys aren't mugs, and if anything, the way they've turned it around in rapid time is beginning to look very smart (wouldn't be surprised if clubs try to copy the model in the future) So, where are Chelsea? Ahead of you and looking like they're going to go from strength to strength (they won the CL in their 'banter era' and now they've caught up, while you have nothing to show for the hundreds of millions spent besides 2 seasons where you finished above them). Their squad has been built to compete for the next 5-10 years so expectations for them are rightly and understandably lower with a brand new manager, a rapid overhaul in playing staff and the youngest squad the prem has ever seen, while Arsenal are fully in win now and deliver territory And anyway, don't resort to whataboutism.
