Test teams don't do "tours" any more. They arrive, play one warmup "match" (a glorified training session) and then jump straight into a test series. No wonder the home team invariably wins the series! In 1961 Benaud's Aussies arrived eight weeks before the first test, played several county sides in serious competitive matches before the first test. On tour down under England used to play state teams before the first test, players played themselves into form and the test team was selected on current form not what they had achieved in previous seasons.

You’re disconnected from realist mate. It’s got nothing to do with playing warm up games. As JK says, you gotta have multi conditions skills. Historically most teams have been very poor travelers. Barring the Aussies, the WI in 80s and India in the last 6-7 years.

It is also the cricket ball, they always cannot handle the kookaburra ball on fast bouncy wickets down under. You need fast bowlers to bowl line and length there is there is not much swing. Here the Dukes makes batting nigh impossible under cloudy conditions and swings too much.
@cskwillreturn2473
@cskwillreturn2473 18 күн бұрын
England doesn't necessarily need an Archer-type bowler to grind on subcontinental pitches. The real issue has been their batting approach, which often lets them down. Their batsmen have performed well in challenging English conditions, but they struggle on flatter subcontinental pitches, which shouldnt ideally balance out their bowling shortcomings.

@rohanmarkjay
@rohanmarkjay 24 күн бұрын
Actually England were pretty good generally touring in the 1970s and 1980s. It started to go pearshaped for ENgland overseas in the famous 1990s era. Where they would go to WI, SOuth Asia and Australia and get absolutely humiliated to the point it became a real life cricketing version of a Monty Python sketch. Sure it was comedy gold even to England fans. But they did not seem to have the same ability to adapt like previous England sides of the 1970s and 1980s. In 1970s and 1980s sure they might lose in WI or Australia but they Never gave the impression they were clueless in overseas conditions or became rabbits in the headlights like England teams overseas since 1990s have been. Yeah from 1990s it has been pretty much downhill except for a few rare overseas wins.

England Cricket teams have not always been bad. You have to go way back where they consistently did ok overseas but that was before the bad era of the 1990s. I would say the 1970s and 1980s were very good years for England touring sides even with a world beating WI and Aus teams. They always acounted themselves creditably even with good opposition and different conditions. I think in early 1993 they went to Subcontinent. Toured India and Sri Lanka and really really struggled in those conditions where previous England teams of the 1970s and 1980s would go to India and Sri Lanka and play well in Subcontinent. But after 1993 series. They just could not play well again Subcontinent. Yes they had a good series in 2001. But that was only bright spot. Normally they would not take the Subcontinent tour serious enough given that its one of the toughest assignments for and England team on tour after Australia. But would not put into the training required in those condition Australia and South Asia required to do well. For example they could have set a month long training camps in California or Spain which is very similar to aussie conditions in the 1990s and 2000s. But England teams never bothered despite having plenty of money to conduct such training in those regions. For South Asia they could have set up a training camp in southern Florida in the 1990s and 2000s. Whose humidity and heat is very similar to South Asian countries of India and Sri Lanka. For Pakistan they could have trained in the UAE for a month or two before going on tour in the 1990s and 2000s. Just because you do well in English conditions and train up for it does not translate to you doing well in conditions in South Asia and Australia. Because the cricket conditions in those parts of the world are totally different to England. English conditions if truth be told are very mild and comfortable for playing cricket compared to South Asia and Australia. So England teams immediately struggle over there besides the cricketing excellence of the hosts on top of that. They just do not seem to do enough to train hard enough for those tough tours in their conditions. Where as England Teams in 1970s,1980s while they trained in England indoors. They managed to adapt. Since early 1990s successive ENgland team mostly have been clueless in adapting to the challenging tour conditions of South Asia and Australia. An English summer is actually very comfortable in comparison and is not training school for the tough rigorous tests they get in South Asia or Australia.
