You don’t use auricles as an identifying characteristic?

While tall fescue CAN have some short auricles, they are not always present. In my opinion, there are plenty of other traits unique to tall fescue that make it easy to identify among other turfgrasses used in lawns.

Great video. Seems my fescue lawn which was actually a 50% ryegrass premium blend actually became a ryegrass lawn. I think it’s because I never cut the eye or maybe I scraped away the fescue with a hard rake or perhaps it died off in the heat of summer. Will fescue grow through the rye which is in clumps?

Thanks for responding. Im in Melbourne Australia. Unfortunately I can only see a first part of your reply in notifications. about sprout times. When i click on it for more it disappears. Very strange.

Thank you for the most detailed descriptions of each grass. Would love to see some descriptions of less desirable grasses that end up in turf and how to best identify them. I.e Italian ryegrass. Thanks from Australia :)

Horrible grass

It certainly has its place in the landscape with the drought and wear tolerance characteristics that many of the new varieties possess. That being said, it wouldn't be my first choice unless specific conditions dictated that it was the best option.

Keeps saying "You can see"; when in fact, its so out of focus, it's a strain on your eyes. Should have filmed this better.

Yeah... Technology and a steep learning curve. I'm contemplating re-recording some or all of these with some new equipment in hopes of reducing that problem.
