🧑 Tallest Man in the World | Comparison of the Tallest People in History

According to the Guinness World Records, the tallest human in recorded history was Robert Wadlow of the United States (1918-1940), who was 272 cm (8 ft 11 in). He received media attention in 1939 when he was measured to be the tallest man in the world, beating John Rogan's record, after reaching a height of 267 cm (8 ft 9 in).
There are reports about even taller people but most of such claims are unverified or erroneous. Since antiquity, it has been reported about the finds of gigantic human skeletons. Originally thought to belong to mythical giants, these bones were later identified as the exaggerated remains of prehistoric animals, usually whales or elephants. Regular reports in American newspapers in the 18th and 19th centuries of giant human skeletons may have inspired the case of the "petrified" Cardiff Giant, a famous archaeological hoax.

Robert Wadlow most definitely would have surpassed 9ft if he had lived a few more years. He died from an infection on his foot at age 22 and jis doctors said he was still actively growing and hadn't stopped yet when he died. Some have suggested he would have stopped between 9'2" - 9'6" 🤯🤯🤯

Fun side fact: In the pictures of 94 Alain Delaunois, 66 Abdramane Dembele (or apparently Sultan Kösen and currently the tallest man on earth) and 37 Alexander Sizonenko you can see the same man: Georg Wessels, a German shoemaker from a small town called "Vreden". Yes. I've seen studies that find when people cross the 6'8 threshold, they tend to live significantly shorter lives than those of regular height. Most often it is heart-related. Probably because it puts a greater strain on the heart pumping all that blood that far against gravity.

Folks in rhe very tall category tend to live shorter lives but, it doesn't seem to be significantly less.

In 1953, at age 7, I met "Ted Evans", reputed to then be the ( Tallest Man in the World. at 8'5.5" tall).at Madison Square Garden, when the Barnum & Bailey Circus was in town! He was seated on a throne-like chair, wearing a large Stetson hat & wearing a ring, which he sold, with his name, height & designation on it! My aunt bought me the ring, which I kept for years! @@lisa78419 we'll probably never get a definitive answer. Anna's billed height was 8'1" and Martin's 7'8" yet from their wedding photos they appear to be within 1 inch of each other. Regardless of their actual height they were certainly very tall, and must have been a real sight for 5'0" Queen Victoria (who paid for the wedding dress) during their European tour.
