Great video! I want to hike the PCT SOBO and there's such a paucity of good videos on the SOBO experience so it's hard to get a sense of what it's like, as compared to all the NOBO videos out there. I really appreciate you sharing your experience!

Did you end up hiking the PCT SOBO? Would love to hear your experience.

@@TallJoeHikes Hi! Sort of half and half, though the high snow year last year made me decide to leave out a section and start further north than I'd planned. I did a bit of Oregon and all of WA NOBO, then flipped down to Lake Tahoe and went SOBO from there. I think it worked really well - sort of got to pick the season for each section - but didn't have a very social trail experience. I'm going to go back and try to thru hike it to pick up the section I haven't done, and if I miss sections I've already done next time I'll be okay with that and just consider it two long-ass section hikes!

Two very long-ass section hikes!! Haha. I totally understand missing out on the social part. During my NOBO AT thru hike I went with the bubble and met a lot of people. For the PCT I thought I wanted something different and although I met some really great people.. there were also more lonely days than I expected. If I was to do the PCT again, I think I would go north. NOBO would be a completely different experience on the same trail. I hope you have a great experience next time around! Have fun!

“Slow down, enjoy it. Slow down, enjoy it”. “I gotta poop, but the bugs are unreal”. Two of the most relatable things I’ve heard in a KZbin video. Determination is in backpackers’ blood. To get injured, forcing you off trail, only to get back out there the next year is amazing (and also relatable). Great job and great video! Thanks for sharing!

@@pellelindbergh4455 glad to hear. Good luck out there! Each part of the trail is very unique but my favorite was definitely Washington especially in mid to late July.

Incredible video!!! I am hiking Harts Pass to Etnas this year July 17 start :) would you recommend an ice axe or are microspikes sufficient?
@TallJoeHikes
@TallJoeHikes 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jessica! There will be snow chutes for you to cross well into July. The ice axe is kind of like insurance. I was happy that I had the self arrest ski pole in 2017. I had an ice axe in 2016 when I fell and it was strapped to my pack.... It really depends on your level of comfort and experience on the snow. Stay safe and have fun. Washington is beautiful!!!

Did you wear cramp ons for your shoes while hiking in the snowy areas?
@TallJoeHikes
@TallJoeHikes 5 жыл бұрын
I only wore them coming up Red Pass and for a short section over a mostly iced over snow chute near Cutthroat Pass. I know its extra weight but I'm glad I had them. Every year is totally different and snow can last far into July through Washington. Are you headed out SOBO this year?

I'm planning a small section in late August beginning of September. I'm thinking about starting in harts pass to Stevens pass. Its about 160 miles. Would love to do more but sadly that's all the time I'm going to have.

Your 3 parts of this video are my favorite. I've watched it a million times and still "feeling fortified", going for a swim and the "Utogg Sandwich" are amazing. I smile every time.

@@parkerturner9629 Hey! Washington in July and August was absolutely amazing! It was by far my favorite section of the whole PCT. I thru hiked the AT and most of the PCT with the Tarptent Rainbow. The HMG tarp setup wasn't for me. Sadly, after 4000 miles with the Rainbow I had to throw out the tent but plan on buying a new one soon. I averaged somewhere around 20 miles a day through Washington. The trail is beautiful and the days are super long that time of year. Enjoy!!!

Good to see you back out there after last year's accident! How did your shoulder hold up? I was actually on the PCT from Hart's Pass to Stehekin at the same time, surprised I didn't run into you, but Jonathan (Ghost) said he hiked with you later on. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your PCT videos!
