Okay The clay men are “human” and the little people are time and the big universe guy is the “mechanical hands” and the person singing heavily is also mechanical hands and he’s describing how time will be the start and death of everything. One of the earliest lyrics in the song are sang by humans “At the end of a time is another begun”. It explains why the tune of the music when the mv starts is the same as when it ends because it starts again. The rl scenes are really confusing but that is basically just “space” because the rooms are depicted as other “planets”. Time is inevitable and it’s fate will change all.

Here: The "mechanical hands" in the chorus are a reference to the hands of a clock, thus the "Ruler of Everything" is Time. The "do you like how my face disintegrates into chalk" is referring to how you and everyone else will eventually decay into nothing. There, it makes sense now.

Meaning of this song: Juno represents humanity, or mankind. There is the second character, Time itself, which argues agaisnt him. We start off by knowing that Juno is an insecure and egocentric character, by how he asks for approval. "Do you like how I dance? I've got zirconium pants!", "Do you like how I walk? Do you like how I talk???". Even using his wife and job as "accomplishments". Time replies that these are not important, by "consecuensial enough to slip you into a trance"; "Not important, and that it makes you lose your grip in reality". We also learn that Juno feels like he has a problem, where he feels like he needs to know when he will die, as if he had a big credit in the universe. Which, he doesn't. Time aays "You resemble a fool, although you're only a man, so give it up and smile". Easier way to read it, "You're dumb, so stay dumb". Time also tells him that the only thing he needs to understand is that he cant understand anything. Juno seems to be angry because of this all. He believes to be associated to "gods", "heaven", or spiritual theories. Which leads to "shot at the sun with a gun", as if in a metaphor, not with ACTUALLY a gun, shot in fury at the sun, the thing most associated to heaven at his reach. The first time we see the "You understand mechanical hands", it's a question. Time is asking Juno if he knows that Mechanical hands are the ruler of everything. At the second time they say this, it's a statement. Juno understood that part. Juno is an adrogynous name, which is also used to represent humanity. I just stole all of this info from a video I just watched. Leave me alone, I'm autistic and stutter when I try to tell it to my mom.

It's about cycles, and in extension, nihilism; EG nothing matters in the end However, you could easily say that is not true, as you could say that by accomplishing anything in the span of all history is an achievement in of itself - what you have done will be remembered forever, while those who have not will not be remembered. Who knows. Maybe one day, we'll figure out how to make a wormhole and escape this reality, and into the multiverse- it's not impossible. The greatest thing about life is that it formed in a system that likely was never constructed with it's existence in mind (this could be up for debate if you believe in god or not, either way, it's irrelevant); and because of this, we as biological life forms will not ever stop until we find a conclusion in which we will survive. Nobody can say what the future will bring, and what technology will become available. Already, we have things that make old scifi shows look archaic in comparison - ion drives, laser beam weapons that can destroy planes and missiles almost casually, etc. Only issue is that we haven't figured out an FTL drive, and even then, we're still getting closer and closer to a conclusion. Never give up - never stop trying to make your place in the universe, as otherwise you'll just be overtaken by someone else who will... and just maybe, we can reach an end in which not even the death of the universe could stop us.

I think im in love. Juno is such a beautifully constructed character for just one song. The way hes been somewhat described to be rude, egotistical, and greedy is almost like a defense mechanism to hide his insecurities, like his fear of death (by that, the line "Do you hear the clock stop when you reach the end?") And his want to be remembered after death as to avoid being forgotten about, another fear of his or... Something like that. I'm so in love with Juno and I've never related to a song character more

There’s something about Tally Hall, Lemon Demon, and other ‘internet rock’ bands/artists that makes them incredibly good at making songs that make you want more content about that character. Maybe it’s that their internet influence is directly caused by those skills, but these bands are great at making 3 - 4 minute songs feel like entire films about a well-written character.

Ive listened to this a bunch and ive just realized a few things: -the song is about controlling time (mechanical hands are the ruler of everything) -using the power irresponsibly, and not understanding it -the song slows down, speeds up and even uses sounds that are sped up and slowed down to show the impact of time -in the video the little people get tired of being controlled and kill the ruler, returning everything back to normal and bringing the song back to the opening riff. Very cool stuff for a rather silly and wild sounding song.

If you've never seen discussion of this song you may not realise that the high pitched voice is a person and the deep voice is time. This becomes particularly difficult in the line "Do you like how my face *disintegrates into chalk."* Time says the words in bold, interrupting the man to further point out his flaws before he's even able to make the statement. Conjecture: He seems to be trying to convince time that his actions aren't pointless, but consistently makes arguments that only prove time right - he is more interested in how he appears (do you like how I walk?) than how happy he or others are. Time interjects here, finishing the man's argument for him. The man says the same thing three times essentially - the way he talks, the way he walks, and the way his face looks are all appealing, but they're also fake ("Disintegrates into chalk"). The man points these out as if they're good things, but time finishes his statement for him and changes the words he was going to use just slightly to make how bad his attitude is clear. Yes, he appears nice from outside, but inside he has no positive features and he's prevented himself from being happy by forcing himself to act in specific ways.
@bean_eater12093 жыл бұрын
This is a really cool interpretation. Also worth noting that Joe has also used a deeper pitched voice to represent a stronger being outside of this, in Spring and a Storm.
@nebulaxis78493 жыл бұрын
Ok actually this is the best interpretation I’ve seen. The whole rest of the song backs this up on how everything you do is meaningless when you look at time. It’s the ruler of you, you are forgotten with time. You might hate time, you might want to be immortal but in the end it’s impossible.

So you think time wants you ti be a pessimistic dude that hates everything, I’m starting to think maybe that’s why time gets killed in this video, it makes me think more that although time is mostly correct, time sees it as meaningless, but when your life is temporary, the only thing you can do is to craft meaning from nothingness. Like how we make fun of monkeys playing with rocks, when really they just want meaning as much as us.
@casimir1109 күн бұрын
why does this song feel so happy yet so eerie
@Yzarro8 жыл бұрын
So, I'm pretty sure the song is about humanity's insignificance against Time. (The "mechanical hands" being the hands of a clock.) The high pitched voice is a self-important human being, and the deep voice is Time reminding the man how temporary and insignificant he really is. But, for the life of me, I haven't got a goddamn clue what this video is supposed to mean.
@EmeraldFox118 жыл бұрын
+Yzarro holy crap IT MAKES SENSE!! XD And what I think the video means? In the beginning, we are dumb and we don't know much, but we want to know more so we build a slight shot with very simple tools to take us to another realm of understanding (2d -> 3d?) And when the people arrived there, they had to use the new bodies (maybe they were lifeless before) to become aware. This is when the dude (time? Death, inevitable end?) comes in and we are aware of him. Then, they wanted to explore more, maybe find a way to stop time and be free of him? ... So they aspired to know more. They build a ship, multiple, with more advanced tools, and arrived at the present, the realm that the time dude lives in. (He lives in the human world? Maybe because we are at that stage where we are attempting to conquer the idea of time and manipulate it, but we can't) They developed civilization, were thriving in this (literally) alien world, and the ruler of time/ space (maybe 4d??? We cannot perceive 4D without math, so it makes sense that the little dudes cannot actually be free of him) comes in. The small dudes attempt to understand/conquer/be free of his reign of time that controls them and makes them die etc. but, after they go and overthrow time and space, they end up in the beginning. They were never able to defeat the thing that controls them- they are only men, human-beings. Thus, they only destroy their ability to perceive time, and end up 2d like they were, probably doomed to repeat the cycle. DANG ok that helped me understand the video XDD

The song is a conversation between a human and the ruler of everything, the higher voice is the human, thorough the song we can see him asking things to the ruler of everything because he's insecure, seeking aproval from a superior life form "do you like how i walk?" And "if this mirror was clearer i'd be standing so tall" the latter representing a typical excuse, the deeper voice, in contrast, says much more complicated things like "consequential enough to sleep you into a trance" this what he thinks of himself, for instance, the ruler of everything laughs at him and mocks the human, "your facade is a a scam". The amoeba-like people are time itself, the fleshy people are humans and the cosmos guy is the ruler of everything, supposedly. This is why in the chorus the higher voice says to the cosmos guy "Do you understand mechancial hands are the ruler of everything?" Meaning that his title means nothing, and as much superior as he is, time will overcome everyone and everything, including the ruler of everything that controls the fleshy world, the fleshy people eventually fulfill their ambitions, they build ships and go into space, but the cosmos guy is not impressed and is rather unempatic, the biggest achievements of humans would probably be pathetic to other life forms in the universe, this is irrelevant, as we can see, in the end, time consumes the ruler of everything, and the whole universe, ressembled by the decay the objects in the bathroom suffer, no one can escape time, mechanical hands are the ruler of everything, eventually even the stars decay until the last scene, a black screen, there is nothing.
@axolotl5933 жыл бұрын

Crazy theory: Since the song is about time I think the “Flibbity jibbity jibby jabber” actually the sound of a clock ticking and the comprehending thing represents humans trying to understand time and how to overcome it but fail Bonus theory: The start and the end of the song have a zoom out on the world and the visuals show the creatures concurring land and colonising other worlds, making it an infinite loop They move into a world, learn and move to other places, leaving a trail of destruction behind. Sounds familiar, huh…

This song seems to be about the inevitability of time regardless of how far humans advance in technology. It also seems like time is the manipulator of humans in the lyrics as well. So at the beginning of the song it seems that there is a spark of desire to go beyond what is believed to be reality. This could be a metaphor for the advancements in technology going so far as to open up a new dimension of innovation. There's also the spark of desire in the singing as time singing as one, begins to tell a story about Juno being unhappy with the sun/universe or the control of time. So then the humans (or Juno) begin to venture further in 3d at first as they know so little they continue to sing with time about how the mechanical hands (time) is the ruler of everything. But the humans begin to gloat and raise themselves up to be bigger and better than they actually are, whilst time is mocking them for having such a disproportional ego and believing they could reach further from time. Eventually this leads to the "Oh no no, oh yeah" (the "Oh yeah" being the crack in their ego) as the humans begin being broken down by time begin to realize how insignificant they are. This leads to the eccentric part of the song as the humans begin to sing about the idea time has been pushing on them. All the while continuing technological advancements to overcome time. At the end they manage to take down time but seem to fall back into their original start as they begin to devour the 3d world. This in the lyrics could be time saying "Oh no no, oh yeah". As it seems like the humans have won but in the end reverted back to their most basic form. Meaning time ultimately won. The separation of the singing when they both sing "Mechanical hands are the ruler of everything" but during the 3rd part time sings "I'm the ruler of everything" while humans just sing "Ruler of everything". Could be symbolism for the idea the humans have at the beginning as they are just following time and at the end as humans begin to follow time again. It also seems to be in the background that time is constantly trying to manipulate humans to follow its ideas. To conform to inevitability of time. There's also the part of an announcer in the background talking about a jackrabbit running around. And as another comment pointed out "Slobbering on the clovers on the side of the hill" is a comparison to a wild animal grazing (being the jackrabbit) further belittling humans being no more than a mindless animal. Worse a mindless animal about to be killed by the birds, the humans claimed to be observing. This being the lyric "Circling in for the kill". I'm unable to make the connection to why the 2 dimensional creatures pop out of the clay as the 2d creatures swarm time. I don't get what it means for the 2d creatures to ultimately defeat time. Would appreciate any criticism on this idea. Maybe someone can expand it further or come up with something different using these connections.

I think the 2d figures are supposedly time cause in the beggining we see them and the deep voice singing and with the deep voice being time it could mean that the 2d figures are time, and the big black guy could be the universe that's winding the world of the 3D figures using time: the 2D figures, cause as we see the 2D figures go inside the 3D figures and kill them and time also destroys the universe itself the big black guy, the one thing it created had destroyed him, and with every single thing in the world destroyed, the 2D figures are the only one whom stand, making them the ruler of everything

My personal deconstruction of the song is that it’s about a man going through an existential crisis of sorts. We can see this in the section of the song that was memed to death. In these lyrics there is a high pitch and a low pitch and I think the high pitch is supposed to signify him distracting himself with everything he has and the low pitch is reminding that he is egocentric, has some sort of malicious intent, and that the slow March of time will eventually catch up. Also eventually the high pitch acknowledges the low pitch when the low pitch says “I know you, I’ve been you” which further solidifies that the low pitch is part of him. The high pitch reacts by breaking down admitting that he is a metamorphical scam. Eventually in the fast part he accepts that anyone trying to act above time or understand it is a fool and that you should not worry about and just smile. There’s another theory that this is just about time and that fits also

So it’s a self dialogue? Intriguing. If that’s the case, how do the visuals connect to the song? Also, there are some contradictions to your point. The line about “slobbering over clovers” doesn’t make much sense in this context, considering that the same person would have to observe themself. Cool theory, though.

my interpretation was that the song was more about how humans think of animals, stars, and plants as inferior so we (slobber over clovers, shoot at the sun). When the only thing we accomplished are goals and problems we set for ourselves (political systems, access to information via the internet, weapons) I'm aware the song takes a more self dialogue existential crisis type direction however its cool to see a song cover that topic even if its just a interpretation.
