I just got a broken claw machine that I'm trying to restore. I don't know that any of this will be that helpful to me, but I just wanted to say, your editing and humor are top notch. :D

Put the 1K resistor back into the board and adjust the Trim POT until you find the limited claw power to work correctly. There must be a RATIO of the trim pot adjustment with the 1K resistor to get the correct limited power to the claw.

Resistors limit current. More current = stronger magnetic pull on the claw. By removing the resistor, you have taken all the resistance out of the circuit and given full power to the claw.
@coin-opcorner

Yes but this circuit was designed to send full power through that resistor. It sends full power through it whenever it sends power to the transistor, which lowers that depending on what the potentiometer tells it to. It's strange that the power runs through it just fine when it's running to the transistor, but when it's running to the relay, the resistor blocks all voltage.

The new relay needs more current to turn on than the old one did. The 1k resistor is too large to provide it with enough current. The resistor appearing to "block" the voltage is a red herring. A resistor passing current will drop voltage equal to the resistance times the current. Since the relay input has no resistance itself, the resistor will pass the maximum current and drop all the voltage across it (meaning full voltage on one side and none on the other). It's just not enough current to turn the new relay on. Without any resistor at all, it might be too much current and will cause the relay to burn out after a much shorter time.

On those LED panels: That short little connector is so that you can connect two of the panels directly to each other in a 'line' without a gap/wire between them. When I've bought those panels before they've come with a complete power plug, so I don't know what the deal with the partial ones is.

10:40 this is usually my mind as I'm working on these things, lol. I picked one of these up recently, and have been going through it to get it going again. Also, how is your House of the Dead? I've been looking at one of those too, but was thinking about modernizing the monitor to be lighter. However, light guns require a CRT, don't they?
@coin-opcorner

House of the Dead is working great! Continues to be a visitor favorite. I will warn you though, they run on Medium Res monitors, which are extremely expensive and difficult to repair, and you actually can't upgrade them to flatscreens due to them using the older light gun technology. I think from HOTD2 and on they used a different technology and can work with flatscreens.

I have a talon crane and the start up and reboot works as normal but once you play it and hit the drop button it continues to drop until it’s at the end of the string and shows a code 88 04 for what I found looked to be the “down motor switch problem” then on the way back up after it reboots itself is shows 88 01. Any advice on what I should look for or how to go about fixing? Thanks!!

Yo. I sold this machine the other day, so I can't check anything myself, but I would bet that the switch in the gantry that tells the board when there's slack on the string is either dead or disconnected. Take apart the gantry and see.

What kind of diode is used in the claw control circuitry?

@@coin-opcorner Alright. Do you remember what diode you replaced the one in the machine with?
@coin-opcorner
@coin-opcorner Жыл бұрын
@@any123-og I actually just left it out because it was there to allow voltage to flow from the ground to the positive side of the bridge (which it shouldn't ever need to do). I would recommend just removing the diode first to see if that's your problem.
