Bastion was damaged during Omnic crisis and got wake up several years later by ganymede gaining a sort of self conscieness and reacted at the woodpeeker because the sound is similar to gun shots since he has a robot version of PTSD

so basically bastion has the omnic version of ptsd. hence why he engaged sentry mode and ripped the forest apart. he snapped back to a single moment of hell then snapped back shocked. scared...and sad cause till the end he thought he killed his only friend.
