My idea for an edc pouch is to hold all the loose items I carry- lighter, pen, chapstick, eye drops (dry eyes), notepad, dude wipe, toothpick- that I use often but don't need quick access to. My folding knife, wallet and flashlight are all separate for easy access. My pouch is similar to the last one but I got it from Daiso, a japanese style dollar store.

Definitely don’t understand them as a pocket organizer, but I have been using one as a way to keep redundant and emergency items with me from car to car, or bag to bag.

I just carry a 3 inch flashlight a 2.25" blade folding knife and my ear buds now in my 6 inch edc pouch. I used to over carry all the ridiculous edc stuff I used to see on youtube videos but never used more than those three things I listed previously. A lot of the EDC Instagram crowd stuff isn't practical for those of us that use them for every day tasks like work.

I just use my pockets for the essential EDC things like a light, a folding knife, a gentleman's knife, a wallet & OC spray. I do use a pouch for bigger things, but I find taking an extra minute (literally) allows me to stage my things where I want and I don't have to think about where everything is at any given time, especially under stress. I suppose I could make an EDC pouch and have that as a backup in case I forget to put something in my pockets. But, for me, pockets work really well and don't cost as much as a whole bunch of pouches that I've determined don't work as well as my pockets. It all comes down to habit I suppose. One thing about pouches is it's easier for someone to swipe everything you value in one "fell swoop." Like leaving your pouch on a table. Too easy. YMMV.

Agree, pouches are for bags and cars. EDC to me goes in my pockets and is carried everywhere, everyday. That said, I spent most all of my career in a corporate environment where easily half of that time I had to dress accordingly (all of the 90's into low 00's). After that work ethics changed and dress codes were relaxed. Look around now at the executive talent and witness the results of doing that LOL (casual meetings = casual company) But hey, now the guys pierce their ears in the office, take maternity leave and drink foo foo latte's! Carrying the essentials in my pockets will never change, knife, keys, wallet and light all have their individual spaces. I have a few maxped micro pouches and one of their hook pouches(that's the one with the hook side of velcro on the back) The micros I use as dedicated tool pouches and the hook pouch is used for stuff I don't need daily like nail clippers, chapstick, a small bottle of advice and maybe a contact lens case. The never get put in my pockets and instead always carry them in whatever bag I'm using either for work or just out of the house for extended periods.

I have 2 'EDC' pouches I travel with. One for tools and one for various device charging/connectivity. I don't see literally carrying one around at all times. However, I do like the idea of keeping one in each of my vehicles. That would make it so much easier to find the 'EDC' items that are in nooks and crannies throughout each vehicle. Great idea!

I've graduated to a compact EDC sling bag, one that is neither too big or too small, just the right size to hold my wallet, keys, cell phone, Sony Linkbuds S, Benchmade Griptilian folding knife, Re-chargeable 800 Lumen Tactical flash light, and a multi tool. If I remove a few items, I can fit a single Stack 9mm Walther PPS with a back up magazine. Beats having one of these pocket organizers stuffed in a pocket or jacket. Its always on me. The last pocket organizer I had was in a 5.11 Covert 18 backpack, that got jacked by a tow truck driver.

I recently started using the Alpaka hub pouch. There is a zipper compartment in the front I use as a wallet to keep my cards. I keep a multitool, flashlight, small pen and notebook, and chapstick in it. But I still keep my normal edc knife in my pocket. Definitely lots of different pouches out there to find one you like.

I use pouches like the first 2 for my truck & work bag (quick access tools, redundancy), some for small med pouches (for vehicles, work bag), and slightly larger pouches for tech, charge cables etc for work and travel. My tools & knife pouch in my work bag is also a “non-TSA” compliant pouch. If I’m traveling by plane and I will want my knife and tools after I land- this makes it easier to remember to take that pouch out of my backpack and pack into check luggage before security check.

As a diabetic, I have a smaller Maxpedition, which I use to keep a spare set of my pump gear in. But it goes into my backpack for only a couple of days. The only other one I use is also a Maxpedition, where my iPad mini, and Kindle live, for easy packing when going out of town on weekends. Outside of that, I’ve not found a need for a pouch carry, as yet.

I made my own out of an old red make-up bag. Mine is DEFINITELY overkill. But I'm a 67 year old female and I've lived in a caravan since 2004. So I know what works for me. I call it my POM Kit (Peace of Mind Kit). I bought very little. It goes into a bag made from two small towels sewn together with a strip for putting on a belt. It looks like a 9 months pregnant sweet potato. It weighs 945gms. It contains 187 items. It fits in my handbag like it was made for it. I love it.

I think there was a little too much poking at the Insta crowd. I get it - and am no fan of all of these "EDC/Bugout" types who seem to need at least 3 firearms and 7 knives/machetes in case the zombie apocalypse arrives, even though people hike the entire Appalachian Trail with only a Victorinox Mini SD knife. But at least in my case I don't think I'm doing overkill. I took cues from the channels and just got a pouch like the first Viporade one he showed only I believe heavier and better, a knife, flashlight and pen for the outside, a clippers and a magnifying card, so far. And I did ALL that on the cheap. A 4" flashlight doesn't need to cost $30 and have 500 lumens. It needs to have 3 modes, decent lumens and cost about $5. I have the Cabela's 3" knife for $10 at Bass Pro. I did splurge on the pen, though. It's a $35 Fisher bullet space pen so that it can write in all conditions. I never know when I'll find myself upside down and under water in outer space. I'm actually putting together similar kits for the men in my family for Christmas. I found what appears to be the same pouch on AlliExpress for about $3.50 (rather than the $15 I spend on mind) and we're going to find out what that's like in a few weeks. Take care.

I recently got a garage build gear mighty pouch, which I use things that are not essential but do come in handy from time to time. Mainly my leatherman, bits, lighter among other bits and pieces. It lives in my sling but can fit in a jacket pocket if I need a variety of tools for a job or inconvenience that pops up. Most of the time, I get by with my pocket knife and my SAK, though.

I love using pouches in my edc backpack. Much more organized and easier to retrieve things without messing up the whole backpack. With this said, I do now pocket pouch most of my edc but keep a flashlight and knife loose as they are the most used items that I need to frequently access.

My pouch is really just shit that I want to have but don't want in my pockets. My Leatherman Wave+, bit kit and extender, flashlight, a spare pocket knife, some single use hand warmers, a little booboo kit, some emergency cash, etc. It's been absolutely fantastic to have. There aren't any case queens/expensive grails in it- it's just hard-use stuff that comes in handy. It mostly lives in the water bottle pocket on my backpack.

I think the main goal I had with edc pouches is to carry the items that I would otherwise go without during a day. I transition between 3ish different bags a week depending on what I'm up to, and having a single pouch with all the gear I would want on hand for any emergency task is really ideal. I got the Alpacka Hub pouch, which is a little on the smaller side. I have it packed fairly tightly and might end up removing some items (there's 26 things in there atm). Some things are arguably either completely necessary like a power bank, or useless like a power bank.

brother, I hope the translation is ok, because I'm using Google to go faster, because I'm Brazilian, so, I think that the edc can be minimalist, yes, I ended up adding many items, many things due to consumerism, so without realizing we collected a lot of stuff, of course, I already stopped going out without some and unfortunately I needed it, but I agree with you, a basic edc is often more than enough.

Yeah, I don’t really understand this pouch craze thing either. I really think the majority of people do it just for clicks and views. I understand using the pouches to organize things, but then you need either a fanny pack or small sling bag to carry it, which is okay, if you ACTUALLY use and need all that stuff. I always suggest to people to keep track of what you use on a weekly basis and get rid of the other stuff. Think in probabilities, not possibilities. Way too much over thinking going on today. For many, many years, the only thing I carry in my pockets are: knife, keys, keychain light, wallet (with a few bandaids in it) and a handkerchief. This worked well for my father, uncles and grandfather for many years (except they didn’t have keychain light, lol). Excellent video and content btw, much needed voice of reality. Thank you.

I like the Viperade pouches and have done some reviews on various models. I tend to add a Niteize S-biner through those two loops at the top which makes for a great grab handle if you stash your pouch into a backpack. Very handy for quick access. That said, most of my slimmed down EDC stuff I carry on body, so pouches are generally for extra stuff like knife maintenance, backup batteries for my flashlight, small meds. I also have a separate pouch as my tech kit with all my stuff for charging my phone, iPad or laptop, depending on what I load out with. Anyway, nice video Talon. Thanks again!

Over the years with tools for work I've kinda gravitated toward task type kits instead of a catch all tool bag. The general purpose bag is still there but it isn't everything you own... Usually you know the scope of your project so you take the GP bag then whatever specific pouch/bag/box however you organize. Sometimes you end up with everything you own at your feet but I endeavour to keep things simple... I too have noticed a lot of these organizer loadouts are clearly for show. Fiddling with these 5 pound bricks of knives, flashlights and other doodads that fine, in a pinch are handy to have, you don't want to juggle and dig through everytime you need your pen, chapstick or need to open a box. Most of this stuff need rarely leave your backpack or whatever but again, if you don't have it with you daily, why have it? Backpacks and various other bags are often stronger on a few big compartments, which is nice for larger items but unless it has lots of smaller organization, all your little goods end up as a pile to sort through. Using these small organizers could reel that mess in a bit. Particularly with the velcro fields, you can put patches unique to each kit so you know what's in them without opening them. Or just paint markers. Kit out the items however it makes sense to your personal pathology... Being able to organize whatever your flavor of bag(s) and separating the few things out that you want on your person always I think is the way.

I don't carry a lot of gear. Of course, I'm not the adventurous type, but I do carry two of everything. As a cop, I was taught "two is one - one is none." As I've gotten older (55) I realized that I really don't need that much, but I do still carry a backup gun, knife (sorta) and flashlight. I carry a Victorinox Pioneer SAK and an Olight i3t in a Hitch and Timber "Runt" leather pocket organizer as backup to my Spyderco Para 3 and Surefire G2X Tactical. I also carry a wallet (also Hitch and Timber) two hanks (one for showing/one for blowing) and a Fisher Bullet Space Pen to accompany my Pilot G2 gel pen.

I've been using a pack/ wallet/EDC pouch by one Tigris and I think it fits all of the requirements that you were looking for.. it's a wallet size and has external credit card slots with a Velcro strap to secure them, it also has additional card slots inside and has conventional wallet feel with a clear id spot a separate place for you to keep cash. Plenty of pockets inside and out as well as key ring for you to clip on your keys. I don't know where or how much it was, I received it as a gift. It's been my go to EDC pouch before I knew what that meant.

I have a EDC pouch from Fox Tactical that I use to hold my battery bank, and extra pocket knife, pen, flashlight, etc that I usually just grab to keep in the truck if I'm going out and I know I won't have a place to charge my phone or just want to have few extra tools on me. I like the idea of a central pouch for EDC, but in my experience it just becomes a little to convoluted to just keeping your gear in your pockets at the ready. But, as a backup pouch or something that can carry a few extra pieces of gear that I might need in certain situations it works great.

I feel the exact same about all this edc package stuff. I have nothing against it, but I’ve already thought this out and I’m looking for something that’s like an electricians tool belt/pouch. I need to be able to reach into my pocket and grab my tools in one motion if ever promoted. I consider each action a point of ‘friction’. Every time you have to take pause for an action adds a point of friction. For example: if my pocket knife is clipped to my pocket, I would have to: [1] grab my pocket knife, and [2] deploy my pocket knife. I’m looking for anything where I can deploy my tools in 3 ‘friction points’ or less. Here’s a more “office-related” example: I’m walking around the office and a client calls or my manager says something to me of note and I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of information thrown at me. I have a notebook and a pen and I need to deploy them quickly. With my ideal setup it will look like: [1] reach and pull notebook [2] reach and pull pen [3] start taking notes With all of these annoying pouch setups it looks like: [1] take out pouch [2] undo zipper [3] reach for and pull item(s) [4 optional] close zipper [5] use items That’s already 2 or 3 additional ‘friction points’. Operational efficiency is the goal. Also, if I have to look at where my tool is, I actually count that toward my inefficiency. Ideally I would be able to reach for and deploy my tools without looking.

I think one of the considerations for the zipped pouches is keeping things contained. After losing a couple of multi-tools or knives from sheaths that don't actually close, having a pouch that zips fully closed becomes mighty attractive. So yeah, trade-off, friction points or security.

EDC pouches seem to turn into the chocolate bag carrying bags from that SpongeBob episode. I used to have one of those Maxpedition pouches which always ended up in my flight bag/backpack for work. I don’t put daily EDC items in a pouch because everything I use on a daily basis are in my pockets or in my Vertx Ready Pack (thank you for the recommendation). No need for another bag to open. I’ve gone a similar route for my nightstand & travel. I use a maxpedition fatty on my nightstand. It organizes my pocket knife, light, pepper spray, wallet, micro380 + spare mag, carmex, and maybe a few other small odds/ends. It makes it very nice when traveling bc I have everything organized exactly like at home in it at night when I’m at a hotel or family’s house.

I do a blue collar job and recently dropped my wallet as I was leaving work. Fortunately a colleague had it and gave it back the next day, but it made me think I need to secure it better. My work pants are cut too low in the front and i like front-carry of my wallet, so it fell out when I was sitting a couple of times. I have a green version of the one he shows at about the 6-minute mark and I can use those paracord loops to secure the "wallet" (EDC pouch) to my work pants, like you would a chain wallet. I also like this as my wallet as I can put my money, ID, and cards in the zipup pocket and then have a notepad, pen, Swiss Army knife, and a small light in the pockets. Works well.

I thought about getting a pouch like that for EDC & boo boo kit when I go out places, but it just seems like too much bulk for the pocket. I have 2 different options I use; 1: a Viperade leather belt tool holder so I have my Leatherman, a pen, & a flashlight on 1 holder on my belt; along with 2: a small EDC first aid kit in a tin a bit larger than Altoids that fits perfectly in a 5.56 magazine holder that can go on my belt, or molle to a bag. The remaining EDC (wallet, knife, ear buds, etc) go in other various pockets. Helps with keeping the "wallet butt" look minimal. If I'm traveling I then have a chest sling that I put a more robust IFAK into along with the majority of EDC (minus knife if flying).

ARC Co. Boulder wallet. It comes in a smaller (more traditional wallet size) and an XL size as well. The Boulder, in my opinion, puts an emphasis on being a wallet rather than an EDC pouch. But it still has really good pockets for things like a knife, flashlight, pry bar, general EDC items. It also comes in a bunch of colors and a couple of patterns if I’m not mistaken. If you want something that’s more of a wallet, that’s the one to look at. Been watching your videos for a while, love the content. Keep it up!

I have been using a Chums wallet for a couple years and it's been great. I had it packed tight with a FSP bullet, flashlight, knife, phone charger (6 inch), flash drive, a couple bandaids, and a couple pieces of paper. I'm upgrading and I'm going to add a few things but I think a lot of this EDC stuff like $90 pens and $50 mini pry-bars are ridiculous and unnecessary. Also another benefit to having a edc pouch is you can organize your pockets pretty effectively. I can't imagine keeping all the items in my pockets that I have without an organizer. I carry the Leatherman surge, Zebra 701 pen, chapstick, and an oLight Baton 4 on the outside. Then my SAK classic, lens cleaner, bandaids, a zebra x701 pen, 2 vapes, a kershaw knife, my ridge wallet, and cash/coins. If I carried all of this without an organization, the surge would damage the zebra x701 and vapes, the knife would get damaged, etc. Oh, and an Apple AirTag. Dafuq is an Apple Airtag useful in just a pocket? But it is useful in a pouch.

I just found a legit reason to do an EDC organizer... I just got a job where I get/need to carry quite a few tools like a pen, sharpie, knife/multitool, notepad, index cards, cut resistant glove, pen style flashlight, and thermometer. I've got a small pouch that I can fit all of this into and toss it into my work bag, while rotating out my typical non work EDC gear before/after the shift. I've been looking for a reason to use a pocket organizer for a year or 2 but nothing made sense because of the organizational redundancies. Now that I have a legitimate and consistent work loadout, I have good a reason to keep things together and accessible periodically.

The deal is that some of us want our pockets to be relatively empty. I have a credit-card size aluminum wallet for a credit card, driver's license, a little cash, and my house key. I have another, similar size one for my car key fob and house key. Both are thin and light, perfect for gym shorts with mesh pockets. The EDC pouch has my thin wallet with about 6-8 cards (AAA, mass transit,, second credit, library, health insurance, two store cards), reading glasses, headset for phone, a mask, pen, and house key/car key fob. It can be tossed into whatever else I'm taking, whether a briefcase style bag for business meetings, a sling for regular use, a backpack when needed, or a gym bag. The need for this became clear when I needed the reading glasses to read labels at the supermarket. Everything I take with me out of the house gets used at most a few times a day, so it's okay to take it out of the pouch when needed. Maybe if I actually had a life I'd need things more regularly...

I have multiple Maxpedition pouches set up for different things, but dont ever actually carry one on my person. 1 in the truck at all times for some emergency might need type of things, Flashlight, knife, multitool, battery bank charging cords, emergency blankets, emergency poncho, lighter, zipties, and other random stuffs. 1 I use for camping, this one will change just depending on the type of trip and gear im feeling at the time. It doesnt stay packed just have a big pouch to load up when I want. 1 I use for overnight or weekend trips, flashlight, knife, pen and paper, battery bank w/cords for (phone/airpods/ipad), wall brick, airpods, microfiber cloth. 1 for work battery bank with cord for phone, airpods, and a bluetooth speaker. Very handy to be able to just grab a pouch and know you have what you need for certain situations. Would never actually use one for "edc" though, need ease of access for the actual edc items.

I stuff all my gear into an altoids like container for my backpacks, fanny packs, and car. The idea is great but I do not personally carry one on my body due to the bulk that it adds to the pocket. Great overview!

I have 2 edc pouches that I use. Both have a pocket on the outside where I keep my beard comb for easy access. Inside has the baby banter as a backup knife, a pry bar, microfiber cloth, chapstick and a challenge coin.

I have the Maxpedition pouches for my daily gear that I carry in my backpack (IT Guy here). They allow me to keep my bag organized, but I do use and prefer the Vault Case Co Nano to store my nicer EDC gear when I want to carry it in my bag with me. They are great for transporting your gear for the Gram 🤣and cigars since the case doesn't flex like a material pouch.

Great video. I could see it being useful in the truck just to keep track of those items and not having them float around in the center console

I also go back and forth on using a pouch or not. Same with my edc bag. It’s usually whatever I’m in the mood for that week. But in saying that I love it all!

I just have a pouch from AliExpress, it works great for me since I only access my wallet to pay for gas, everything else is basically paid for electronically on my phone, and the knife and other items I want to whip out are on the outside with the added bonus of being in the exact same spot every time I reach for them. It’s similar to the first Viperade.

For me, I've been using Lochby pocket journal for a simple wallet/carry poutch when going anywhere for an extended amount of time, but I would use any of these for a usual pouch for like wires or as you said to leave in the vehicles.

I’ve been tempted to get one to keep in my backpack while at work. The company I work for is very big on looking professional and not carrying weapons. A pouch would allow me to keep all my gear close and organized and I could just keep my TPT Slide in my coin pocket. That way, worst comes to worse, I have what I feel I need with me at all times.

Great video. I’ve found myself using more and more pouches for each vehicle. That way I know there are items I can use and where they are located. It was too crazy remembering where everything was and which vehicle the stuff was in. I’m slowly building similar kits for each vehicle using pouches and bags. Thanks for sharing 🤙

I have never been a pouch guy as I keep most of my stuff in my truck. I think they might be handy to put the small tools and items in and throw that in the center console. Won't have to dig to the bottom to find stuff.

In a normal situation, I wear tactical pants/shorts, so I have separate pockets for the normal EDC gear I carry and don't need a separate pouch. However, in the summer, I tend to wear basketball shorts a lot and most of them don't have more than 2 pockets and one is already taken up with my phone and pocket notebook. I am experimenting with different pouches to use in that fashion for when I'm wearing basketball shorts, so we shall see where I end up. Thanks for the video and discussion.

Well said!!!! You see this on IG, pouches going out stock and people go crazy, 99% of the big edc guys that promote to buy this or show they setup, when the same guys got knife shows and there ask to do a pocket check, none of them carry a pouch😂😂😂. Like you said this for the IG post!

Never dived into pouches, I always place everything I need for the every day life in specific locations and walk around like a ritual grabbing them to leave. I would love to give an EDC pouch a try, especially that little zippered one.

I use the micro Maxpedition as a BJJ med kit: tape, bandaids, alcohol wipes, nail clippers, etc. and a medium Maxpedition as stationary pencil case for work, but I don’t use these kinds of pouches for my typical EDC. I find they work better for organising stuff I will definitely need, but not constantly need access to.

I'm a big fan of pouches/organizers. I have a couple maxpeditions in various bags, a viperade VE3 that I pocket carry. I also have one that's very similar to the one at 4:07 for when I wanna go super minimal.

I think for the truck definitely makes more sense. If you have the right gear, It’s not to much of a hassle having it in your pockets. But it would be nice to take one thing out vs all your gear lol!

Very cool vid. I just got a free pouch from Olight and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. It's a little too big to EDC but it might make a good truck pouch, or I'll load it up for the wifes jeep. If I get a second one I'll load one up for each vehicle. It would be nice instead of having everything rolling around in the console and cup holders. 🤣

So weird to see this video: I was literally looking these up the other day. 😂 And for me, the idea of keeping some kind of EDC pouch is twofold: 1) I’m a diabetic so I want something that I can hold my insulin pen/syringes in so I have one when I’m out and about and 2) as a soon-to-be dad, I wanted something to put the EDC crap I carry everyday into (along with other needed things like some aspirin and bandages) without carrying a full “kit” everywhere that I can either put in the diaper bag or a backpack for ease of organization.

I just use mine to carry back up items/things I dont always need quick access too (Olight i5T, swiss army knife, meds, sharpie, note pad) Still carry pocket knife wallet and light on me and just bring the pouch along whether I toss it in the vehicle or in my backpack if I brought one.

I don't understand why fashion brands don't make their bags/pouches more functional. It would be so nice to have something with Bellroy's organizational features, but in a more fashion-centric sling. As for these pouches, they never make ones with belt clips (not loops). Would be very useful to have a small organizer (e.g. small knife, flashlight, and a pen) that can be clipped to the belt, so that putting it on and taking it off is simple on the go.

I have a pouch I got on Amazon for work just to hold things I may need when I leave my office. Pad of paper, pen, small multi tool just to throw in my pocket but I don’t need to carry it all the time. I try to keep my EDC for home on the minimal side. The only thing about using a pouch with everything in it like cards, cash or Id’s is if you loose it or accidentally leave it behind you loose everything at once! Not a good day!
