This channel helps me A LOT, prices here in Brazil isn't that cheap and watching these deck techs is very helpful. I build my Lazav, the Multifarous commander watching this channel and i improve later, now it's one of the strongest decks among my friends and the store i play some tournaments. Keep the good job, budget decks can be really strong and you guide us to building correctly.

Not every deck tech needs to be this cheap of course, but it's really nice to have these ultra-budget decks once in a while to help fill out my collection of commander decks I can lend to a friend, or just want to play something different.

lands to consider for any mono color deck: Throne of the High City (being the monarch is criminally underrated in commander, at worst another player steals it from you and becomes the main target of the table, but with all your Drakes you should be able to keep it and steal it back easy when you lose it) Arch of Orazca (with a deck like this, getting the city's blessing is super easy, barely an inconvenience, so that's another optional source of draw for when you don't have anything else to spend mana on or just need to dig) Reliquary Tower (so you don't have to discard to hand size, really useful in a high draw deck like this) Fetches (Wilds, Expanse, and/or the Panoramas to help pull out your Islands so you're more likely to draw gas)

I just drafted a Talrand list that comes in at the $150 range and your fun $9.95 list is likely comparable in terms of the power of exploiting the primary strategy of making Drakes and smashing face. Higher budget options include adding more efficient control spells to play more of a mono U tempo game, better ramp, and infinite combos like Dramatic Rev. and Iso. Scepter and Mass Polymorph into Dead-eye Navigator and Peregrine Drake.

Abjure is one is my favorite cards for counterspells for Talrand. It costs a single blue mana and has sacrifice a blue permanent: Counter target spell. It costs you a drake but Talrand immediately replaces it. And It only costs 28 cents.

I really like the idea of this. I would probably throw in a Helm of the Host, because the idea of casting a cantrip and dropping several 2/2 fliers for U tickles me something fierce. Best part is most of that stuff is going to be at instant speed, so you don't really need to worry about haste. You can just unload on your opponent's turn.

Sounds like it needs ways to protect the Commander. Some budget options include Mystic Veil, Diplomatic Immunity, Robe of Mirrors, Curator's Ward, and Neurok Stealthsuit. Gravitational Shift also sounds powerful in this build. What an anthem.

I was tinkering around with building this deck the other day. I think I'll have to build it for my mono blue commander. One alteration though... No creatures. Just T dog and a Proteus staff. One thing I used to do in Talrand edh was cheap flicker spells (essence flux/siren's ruse) and recursion creatures (mnemonic wall/archaeomancer). Highly recommend!

One of the people had a Talrand deck before I joined the playgroup. Here's their decklist: 1x Talrand, Sky Summoner -- 39x Island -- 60x Various counterspells. He still threatens us with it whenever we build annoying decks. It was insanely good -- from what I've heard it went undefeated for a good while.

This is very similar to my Talrand deck. Just draw/counter/bounce and win. I have some more pricy cards that are great for the deck. Pact of Negation, force of negation, force of will and cyclonic rift are definitely the more expensive cards. I can't stress how important it is to get a few good mana rocks in this deck because you have to be fast. You have to have open mana every turn after turn 3 and have talrand already on board so you can do things at the end of your last opponents turn. Save counterspells for removal aimed at your commander, other counterspells and sweepers.

The best part about this is that you don't even have to get exactly this list-- you can pretty much replace anything you might be missing with something else that fills the same function (as long as it doesn't mess with your curve too much) I can tell you i'm gonna dig him out of my collection right now and see what I can do!
