TAMANG - Folk Songs & Dances

Tamangs are indigenous inhabitants of the Himalayan regions of Nepal and India. Their ancestral home is Tamsaling. However, their origin is believed to be in Yambu (Kathmandu). Buddhist Tamangs are the largest Tibeto-Burman ethnic group in Nepal, Sikkim and Darjeeling. Tamangs have their own language that falls within the Tibeto-Burman language group. Their script is Tamyig. Tamangs have many unique features. They still practice an early form of Paganism where Bonbo or Shamans and Lamas or Buddhist monks perform the rituals together. The main festival is Lhosar (New Year). A memorable entity recognized and shared by Tamangs is their ancient musical instrument Damphu which is a key component of their culture and tradition. No ceremony, whether of joy and sorrow, is complete without Damphu. Along with the original rhythm of Tamang Selo (folk songs), Damphu dance, Mendhomaya dance, Doora dance, and Bakpa dance have influenced Nepalese culture.

If anybody is reading this, I have huge Respect for my culture and anything related to our community. But why is so many tamang traditional outfits are there? Like I have grown wearing this(as in video) outfit but all of a sudden why is everyone giving their own opinion and introducing new designs. If it's all about designs, we can call it designed dresses rather than traditional dress. Anyways video is 🔥. Let's Keep exploring our precious tradition ❤

There are 3 different types of tamang costume those are Dhormo shyama, Gya shyama and shyoldo shyama one with gunyo choli in this video is not a typical and authentic tamang costume

Tamang tribe is culturally and linguistically a very rich tribe.To speak of traditional tamang goilo, it differs from place to place but originally and traditionally there are three types f tamang goilo 1. DHORMO SHYAMMA- this is the actual and original Tamang dress which is still been preserved in hyolmo (hyolmo means a holy land nothing to do with any community) Bothang in sindhupalchok, dhormo is long skirt and Shyama means a woolen woven cloth larger then pangden but smaller then lungi tied from back by ladies along with choli. 2. Gya SHYAMA - worn by western tamang ko Dhading region similar to magar gurung dress. Here gya is tied at both the sides of sholdier( tamang don't tie at one side like gurung mangar because tamang people of dhading tie gya only one side of soldier when there is death in a family...gya tied one side prepresents sorrow..sad..but this is the fashion now) And Shyama here is like lungi. 3.. syoldo Shyama panga shyete che kengkup by Northern or Tamang living in the Hamili area like Rasuwa..due to the terse geography. Here shyoldo is self woven woolen bhakhu , Shyama smaller then lungi tied from behind or panga , shyete is the traditional tamang hat worn by ladies in rasuwa. These are the three types of original and authentic tamang goiilo...but it's fading away....if u see any tamang music video or music tamang ..losar program..there is always Promotion of magar gurung dress in the name of tamang goilo and Nepal tamang gedun is a dumb spectator to it. Now a days tamang lhenga is very common bridal dress copy of Indian lhenga, in future I expect tamang burkha tamang jeans tamang saree tamang kurta tamang dhoti tamang gown . Because our people are so selfish that they can sell their culture for money and they get money from different fashion house for promoting their new design...so do hell with the authenticity, who cares...right! Sad but true. AUTHENTIC TAMANG DRESS is in danger

i really want to know about tamang cast outside of nepal like, darjelling, sikkim, bhutan . ..about the cultute of "swage" or in nepali "sagotri"??? for example i am glan... ghising and lo are my swage.. they are like my own brothers and sister... there is no marriage between glan, ghising and lo. similarly yonjan, lopchan, bomjan... so every surname has their own swage... Do they foĺlow this cultural rule??

Food Habits of Tamangs represent they are from Mongolia. How Tamangs came to Nepal, Bhutan & India ( Darjeeling, Sikkim & Kalimpong)? Tamang cameto these countries during the time of Nepal Tibet war. Tamangs are the ferocious warrior tribe who even defeated Sultan of Kashgar & some Mongols of Kazakhstan while protecting Shangri-la of Tibet. Tamang dress is Tibetan dress.
