I'm superbroke and have an event where I'm expected to dress in a nice evening gown with nice beading, so I've decided to make it myself. Thanks so much for your videos! You are wonderful :)

Just a little bit of beading as accents on an elegantly simple gown can make as much of a statement as a fully beaded dress! think neckline and cuffs! Even a beautifully beaded unstructured sheer jacket over a plain gown can also make a statement!

Thank you for your super-clear intstructions, Robert! Just a question - how high should the frame sit relative to the body when working tambour embroidery?
@tambourbeader7 жыл бұрын
the frame should be positioned so that when you are sitting upright ( in a comfortable chair) you can extend your arm under the frame without have to bend your lower back. I use an adjustable rolling desk chair . For most people a frame height of between 29-31 inches seems to be workable. The most important thing is to keep your back straight while working!
@Teddybearboy7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind advice; I'm new to tambour and haven't yet invested in a proper adjustable frame or the trestles to support the work while embroidering. your tutorial on dressing the frame was oh so useful as it meant i could pretty much make my own frame for less than 20 dollars. (previously i'd been using the easy way and tacking cloth over stretcher bars but obviously that meant the cloth was never properly square) So far in order to work the frame, i've been balancing it on two boxes which allows a nice gap between table and frame to manoeuvre my hands and to keep the spool of thread. The frame comes up to chest height which means I don't bend my back. But whenever I watch videos of Lesage workshops it always looks much lower! My hook also seems to snag often (i'm so far practising on polyester organza as it is cheaper) so I am wondering if it is because the height is not allowing me to properly use the hook upright, or if it is just the fabric.
@tambourbeader7 жыл бұрын
The hook can and will snag for about 100 different reasons !. But ...make sure the fabric is DRUM TIGHT! It should not move as you work the hook through it. Also the hook must be perfectly aligned with the previous stitch and must have pressure on the back of it as it comes up out of the fabric, it also needs to be straight up and down...and the list goes on! Watch the Dec 16 2009 video Tambour Beading over and over again !

what do you mean when you say 'on grain'?
@nmpebbles19905 жыл бұрын
I got a perfect pattern....I’m having issues with tracing my pattern onto the organza.. I have the fabric pinned securely but I’m finding that the organza constantly moves when I trace. Traced pattern is lopsided and not an even look. Do you have videos on how to trace patterns onto organza? I tried 4 times.....to no avail.
@tambourbeader5 жыл бұрын
First of all once you get the fabric on the frame make sure it is drum tight and the grain is square. Then simply pin the pattern t the underside of the frame and trace it with a pencil

Hi there , I am pretty new on your channel . And I would love to learn this embroidery please can u tell from where I can buy the embroidery frame please . I will look forward to hear from you . Thanks 😊

I make the tambour frames and they are available on the SUPPLY page from my web site :roberthaven.webmate.me/Beading_in_the_bluegrass/Beading_in_the_Bluegrass.html. Shipping would be expensive outside of the US because of size and weight but I can provide the special made twill tape I use and that is easy to ship. send a message to my email rwhave2@uky.edu and I can explain how to do it all.

Robert....I’m getting excited to start. I have my strung beads and sequins ready but I am struggling with finding a pattern. Are there free patterns for this type of embroidery that you can share or purchase?
@tambourbeader5 жыл бұрын
check out coloring books. They generally have clean line drawings of flowers and butterfly designs etc. the best way to prctice the stitch is with just a series of straight lines in all directions.

I like your video and i would like to try this technic. But i want To know what sortes or threads you Work please pardon my english.Thanks
@tambourbeader6 жыл бұрын
Sylvie, Your english is fine! When I apply beads and sequins I use basic machine sewing thread, nothing fancy, when I do chain stitch embroidery with the hook I use a single strand of embroidery floss or metallic machine embroidery thread.
@chenshan698 жыл бұрын
Great video, really want to learn this , do you have a online distant learning course ?
@tambourbeader8 жыл бұрын
No there is on online course . The technique needs to be learned in a small class setting under the watchful eye of an experienced beader.

Hi Rober! I was your student from AAU in San Francisco. Love your class so much! I recently start to do a new piece, I heard you said that the fabric can be any kind, but if it's not transparent, how can I know the work going well or not? Thanks!
@tambourbeader7 жыл бұрын
use a hand mirror to see under the frame
@vanessa7546107 жыл бұрын
Thank you for reply! But I'm not really sure how the hand mirror work.. just put the regular mirror like we use every day underneath the frame?
@tambourbeader7 жыл бұрын
just hold it under the frame every once in a while to see how the work looks. As you are actually beading you have to rely only on your hands feeling the beads. Sequins are more difficult but not impossible
@vanessa7546107 жыл бұрын
Got it! Thanks! :)
@maajidaabdool60955 жыл бұрын
just asking what if u do it like how the east Indians or Pakistan do it in nontransparent fabric. could that also work?
@maajidaabdool60955 жыл бұрын
hii!!! what type of thread do u use for the beading and embroidery and for setting up the frame?
@tambourbeader5 жыл бұрын
To frame up the fabric I generally use a double strand of regular sewing thread or if available a single strand of a heavier weight thread. To apply the beads and sequins I most often use any basic machine sewing thread...cotton /poly blend ..dual duty . To create surface embroidery with the hook I use single strand of DMC embroidery floss.
@maajidaabdool60955 жыл бұрын
Robert Haven what's DMC embroidery thread? I think in my country we mostly get the cotton base one. I don't know if that's it. I'm from trinidad.
@tambourbeader5 жыл бұрын
@@maajidaabdool6095 DMC embroidery thread is brand name for six stranded cotton embroidery thread. Other brands would be Anchor or Coats and Clark

Are the frames sold anywhere in the United States?
@joanperea12928 жыл бұрын
Great video, but you don't tell us what size is the twill tape
@tambourbeader8 жыл бұрын
The twill tape is 2 inches wide but it is not the same twill as will be found in fabric stores, that twill will not stand up to the necessary tension of the fabric.
