It looks like this bird was bread in captivity so why would you want to release it into the wild where it would not survive. Not all goldfinches are wild birds.

Its Illegal to keep wild birds unless they are injured. If you really loved birds you would never want to see one in a cage or captivity. Sad .

This one most certainly came from a breeder, however. Goldfinches have been popular pet birds for hundreds of years, before they got largely replaced by canaries in the mid-19th century and budgerigars in the early 20th century. If it grew up in captivity and so did its parents, it doesn't know any different and can be reasonably happy. They are clever birds, so they need some intellectual stimulation, though! :)

OMG,, yeah this a extremely criminal deed, people who love the pet they own, lol! In the mean while huge amounts of finches get killed in Italy every year to end up in lovely finch pate. Japan has an annual bloodfest , they kil enough dolphins to color the sea red, because they taste so yummie. And you worry about a person loving his songbird. Funny.
