This one was fun. I expected the Philadelphia would just be whipped cream cheese lol. I don't need sickly sweet, but Pillsbury has also always been a go to in our house.

I’m really glad you did this comparison because I was tempted to try the Philadelphia brand, but at that price (like Kevin said) just make your own and have a huge bowl for the same price. I have never liked canned frostings, especially the cream cheese varieties, they taste nothing like homemade!

Yes, Betty crocker for the win! I literally make a cake every weekend from a mix for my family so we can all have a piece. I made red velvet last weekend and German chocolate the week before. I had stopped buying Betty since they reduced the box size but the mixes and frostings really are the best. These are some of my favorite videos!!! Thank you!

I actually asked you to do this months ago… thank you for doing it… the vanilla flavor though… Aldi is (IMO) the same as great value… Duncan Hines is vile… Kevin is spot on about making your own cream cheese frosting… I actually use one block of cream cheese, one stick of butter and a box (16 oz, I think) of confectionery sugar along with a little milk, vanilla and salt… it’s amazing and takes five minutes…. Betty Crocker has both a whipped and creamy version, I prefer the whipped… an 8oz block of Philadelphia cream cheese is over $3 where I live…

I’m really surprised with the Philadelphia. I thought surely it would have been better/sweeter. However, with only 9 grams of sugar. I prefer homemade cream cheese frosting. I haven’t had any of these, but I have liked the Betty Crocker frostings. What’s fun review! Thanks so much.

Cream cheese frosting is my favorite type of frosting-especially on a carrot cake. I was going to buy the Philadelphia cream cheese frosting based upon brand reputation but now I won’t. I actually think I’ll try making mine from scratch the next time I need it.

The chocolate frostings taste more similar and the Duncan Hines isn’t vile… but if you try them side by side try to get all the sane chocolate… they have a milk, dark and fudge variety in some brands… I think the traditional is the fudge…

It sounds like you would rank them: 1) Betty Crocker 2) Duncan Hines (kettle corn) 3) Pillsbury/Great Value (tie) 4) Philadelphia Please do vanilla. Chocolate might be harder as some will say chocolate, others chocolate fudge, still others milk chocolate Lastly, have you ever made orange flavored frosting? It’s the hardest non-traditional flavor to find here

Good idea to do a comparison! I never stored the canned frostings in the fridge after I opened them. They have so much sugar and preservatives that they were fine in the cabinet. I normally hate cream cheese frosting, but the cream cheese flavor is so non-existent in these that I didn't mind them as a kid, scraped off 🤣 But I have to agree, Betty Crocker is the least nasty brand!!!

I was literally just having a conversation with my grandmother about how canned frosting isn't what it used to be. I love cream cheese frosting and none of the store bought kind actually have a cream cheese flavor. Once I found out how easy it was to make a homemade cream cheese frosting I stopped buying any canned ones

I think people do that to make it easier to spread. It has the same flavor throughout so you aren’t mixing anything together. 😃

Hi Tami & Kevin. It seems like those type frostings always have that "chemical" taste. Would love to see Kevin do the chocolate also. If there's enough different brands available, maybe try the German chocolate cake frosting, coconut pecan. Always enjoy when you do these types of videos. Have a great weekend! For me it depends in what the cake is with a carrot cake i want a less sweet frosting so the philldphia would probly be tasty . But with a traditional white or yellow cake and espesly a red velvet cake a want a sweet frosting .

The Philadelphia is absolutely AWFUL! It tastes nothing like cream cheese frosting! I ended up adding extra powdered sugar & vanilla to mine & it was still terrible!
