I live in Canada as well and what we usually do when we go on long trips is that we try to minimize the cost of stay by choosing quality motels like this and we maximize the budget on the actual fun of the trip. I think that plan has always worked out best for us. I'd rather spend money on the actual trip, rather than spend money on 5-star hotels. I don't think it's worth it.
