That was a fabulous presentation by RK and thanks to Ashwin for his candid replies during the book launch. He always reminded as another lanky off spinner from Tamil Nadu, S. Venkatragavan with his six different deliveries in an over. The beauty is that he was always a willing learner and proved his mettle even when the chips are down. He even proved a former captain wrong when he wanted to utility of his presence, albeit in a different manner. He was also quick to find out that he should not take his own time while running between the wickets and keeping his bat for a while in crease when Gavaskar and a few others pointed out. He should have played more one-dayers, considering his immense talents, but what else he could have done, except proving his mettle time and again. I would, however, request him not to attempt Mankading anymore, as it does not augur well for sportsman spirit, even though it is permitted within the laws of the game. Ashwin has still cricket left on his sleeve and he should continue to delight the cricket-hungry fans for quite some time. He also proved his skill as a shrewd captain while leading Punjab XI for the IPL tournament. His analytical skill had made a world of difference to the Indian team and proved his worth as a class batsman on a few occasions. The fans would be thrilled to read his book and it will be a valuable lesson to the upcoming youngsters, especially from Tamil Nadu, as one should believe in sustained hard work and sincererity to emulate, if not overcoming him. Wishing Ashwin all the very best in his future endeavour.

First read your comment and then went on to see the video fully to understand what you (@69rkannan) meant in last sentence. So what Ashwin meant is; the batsman cannot think, within the time the ball gets released and the ball reaches him, batsman is executing his shorts sub-consciously (rather you need to understand it as, batsman is reacting to the ball). He obviously can't think within that short span of time. Ashwin in fact starts the answer by saying, people who knows science will understand this better... :)

However, Bradman and later Tendulkar turned that around with them actively studying the minds of the bowlers they faced, understood the ball placement and did intentful batting to score runs under any conditions, and so reflexes and instints become more effective. So, a thinking batsmen is a better batsman. Ashwin is incorrect in that "batsmen doesn't have to think", if that's what he implied.

As an ARDENT Cricket FAN , I always felt Ashwin should focus more on TEST CRICKET. The Ultimate test of skill is IMHO far more in TEST CRICKET. Also by giving up T20, ODI, IPL Ashwin can IMHO elongate his TEST CAREER and have shot at 619, 708 and 800. If there is one cricketer whom I would like to meet , it is definitely ASHWIN and there are quite a few cricketers from all over the world whom I admire, respect but ASHWIN is the only one with whom I would be privileged to talk CRICKET.

I never felt the need to learn growing up in Chennai. But I've been in UK for 25yrs....almost everyday I feel that I don't know Hindi. People from Kerala, Karnataka n AP not only spk Hindi but most know Tamil as well. So why are we so disconnected? Reason: lack of effort from our (my) end & BS politics 😢😔

If there is a group of Tamil speaking ppl and few non-tamil speaking ppl, tamils will try to speak in english to make the others comfortable. U will not get same treatment in a hindi speaking group. Instead of sullying, ask others to speak in universal lang english, particularly being in UK. Why shud there be an undue advantage for a particular sect / region?. Even China , Indonesia has so many different languages and dialects but they choose a common language to speak so they can communicate well with their countrymates......You guys mindset is something else . Ashwin I am fan of you and I love you to be in Indian team always. But your problem with Indian team because of Hindi is not a big deal. It's not everybody knows everything including language. When something in need we will learn. Don't impose something which is not needed for 99.99% people. I am in IT industry which is bigger than cricket and 30% of people working in Chennai from other states it's not correct asking them to learn tamil because we have provided job for their skill not for their language. They are happy with us and engaging why can't cricket players have same attitude. It's rediclus ask to learn Hindi.
