hey Steve, you were one of my biggest influences growing up when I started playing guitar in 1984 at the age of 13. I had a bunch of your CDs and a bunch of your tab books. I sound nothing like you but I found my voice thanks to you and Joe Satriani. Glad I got to see you on G3 at least three times

The surprising part is that it’s a majestic piece of music. Okay, maybe not surprising because we expect it from a compositional musician like Steve Vai. But in the hands of many other guitarists we’d be hearing a relentless flurry of aimless notes just for the sake of those notes.
@IamBoge6 ай бұрын
Your comment makes me question what I'm doing hitting all my notes so fast Steve conveys messages through his beautiful playing and I should be more concerned about my emotion rather than hitting as many notes as fast as possible
@chrisluckhardt6 ай бұрын
@@IamBoge Every technique is worthwhile to learn because they open up possibilities. Fast playing is great when it has a purpose - especially in the context of a great piece of music. Good luck with your playing and learning! :)

@@chrisluckhardt thank you I agree they all have their own personalities and time to shine if you know what I mean. I look forward to adding all sorts of techniques to my music in hopes to really create some "fresh" stuff

You hit the nail on the head. The level of skill required to master a song like this on that instrument is unfathomable, but it’s never just showing off for the sake of showing off. It’s showing off because it’s required to perform a beautiful piece of music.
