I bought this kit the other week as a cheap way to get into scale modelling. Done a few 1/48 kits but wanted to do something bigger scale wise. Coming from miniature figure painting this is a whole other challenge that I'm looking forward to. Thanks for the great vid for general tips plus this kit in particular!

Good video!!! always use Micro-Sol (red bottle) all the time. never really used the Micro-Set (blue bottle) that much, if ever. Going to have to give the Micro-Set another chance - see the benefits now.

The use of decals from a different kit might throw the novice off balance if they can't find the decals that you used. Just a thought. 😊❤😊

at the 3:00 minute mark you use Tamiya X22 clear gloss, but at 25:09 you say "we're not completely wiping it away because its over a matte coat" when your referring to the pin wash spreading outside the lines. Sorry I'm just trying to learn so i do it right and im confused now.
@PiotrSkut Жыл бұрын
@ChampionScaleModelling, I have the same question. After finishing painting, before applying decals, you apply the X22 gloss varnish. Do you apply then a matt varnish over the decals before starting weathering? Great series by the way, it is very helpful

Finishing my panzer II and starting to build the STUG IV. Love the videos. One question though, why are you not using primer on this model?
@ChampionScaleModelling2 жыл бұрын
Because I did not feel I needed it, others may disagree. Primer is always a good idea if you’re worried or want to check areas etc.

Thanks for the new build series, I'm getting back into after many years away and this is really helping. On other builds I noticed that people use a primer coat, is it not needed on this build? Or is the XF-60 acting as that coat?

I am planning to start modeling after seeing your videos, I am a little overwhelmed on how to start modeling and create something like you.should I learn anyother basic stuff before starting with these?. Anyway good video.

one question on the white 'filter' you're applying there - currently at that stage on my tiger. I did apply the dots of white paint on the tank directly then tried spreading it with a flat brush - I'm using the same oil tubes but I find i try diluting it with eco friendly white spirit it gets lumpy not diluting it properly. With turpentine it dilutes it well but somehow it gets lumpy at times when I apply this technique. I wonder if it is because I use an acrylic gloss varnish to seal the acrylic paint underneath ? any idea? I could be that i leave too much turpentine on the brush to wipe/spread it and it reacts with the varnish maybe?
@ChampionScaleModelling4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t use turpentine it’s too coarse, try an artists odorless oil thinner or a modelling brand as it will be smoother when mi ed with the paint and work better for you. Also make sure you have mixed the oil paint well on the pallet

Stug for breakfast👍 The breakfast of champions👍 Sorry, couldn’t help a dad joke to start the day😂 Great video again. The straw tip is brilliant. Also, will you be making a basics video about photo etch? I’ve only used it in aircraft cockpits and not on armour.
@ChampionScaleModelling4 жыл бұрын
Yes, all in good time, I think photo etch is a few builds down the line but is certainly coming. 👍

Sorry to be critical but in Britain it's decal (dee cal) and not decal (deck all) as they say in the U.S. It comes from the French word "decalcomania". Otherwise great build and thank you..
@jamesbednar86254 жыл бұрын
In USA it is said DEE-CAL as well. Canadians say it the other way. does not matter to me -just teaches me that other people pronounce words bit differently across the world.
@mauricetoussaint72836 ай бұрын
Does that even matter. Always been decal and I'm from London.
@calumlittle98282 ай бұрын
This is correct. You sound silly saying deck al. I'm guessing you just didn't hear it said correctly. Now you know though.

What type of thinners are you using to thin the Raw Umber oils for your panel line pin wash? I noted on the "Low Odour Thinners" labelled bottle you decanted from with the pipette, but missed any mention by you of thinners type. Low odour turpentine?
