I enjoyed your video, the start had me laughing out loud. I searched for builds/reviews of this kit as I did have a vague memory of hearing it wasn't too great. Hobbycraft have them for 13 quid. Okay, it has its issues as you say but the price is not too bad. After all that's about the price of a couple of magazines these days! This would be a great subject for Airfix to get their teeth into given the quality of the new stuff they are coming out with. Come on Airfix, as icons of British military aviation is concerned the Falklands Sea Harrier's are way up there. Oh, and I subbed. Take care and happy modeling.

i think this kit is good because its a semi simple harrier, ive built the airfix 1:72 harrier and for 126 parts and marked as a starter set it was a nightmare, but these old tamiya kits have a lot of charm with them that you cant find with most modern kits. I built a 1:48 p 51 b and it just went together so easily and still had most of the tamiya qualities and it only had 2 sprues. don't get me wrong innovation is great and necessary but I think its nice to take it back and try a more rundown kit, even if it means dealing with these issues I think this sea harrier is great. cheers
@RedFiveScaleModels3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I just think for the money there are better quality kits for beginners. The corsairs tamiya offer etc. But this ones not too bad depending on your expectations. If you want a well detailed final piece its junk but if youre ok with that its fine for beginners.

From your video and response to comments, I'm assuming you might be a bit new to scale modeling. @@RedFiveScaleModels. Fact is, you will NOT find a better kit in 1/48 for around $15 USD. It's simple and lacking detail but the fit is fantastic. You would have to spend 2x or more for a bit more detail.

My step dad got me this kit for as a birthday present when I was 10. It really felt like levelling up after doing 1:72 mainly Airfix kits until then. It went together like a dream by comparison, although I appreciate the limitations of the kit now I do fancy having another go at it. Great build and paint though, even though you don't rate this kit I think the older ones have something to offer.

I get what you’re saying about these older Tamiya kits. They are decent enough for beginners but that’s about all they’re good for! Thankfully Tamiya did re-engineer many of these kits starting in the 1990s and they now make some awesome models.

I do not agree. It is not rubbish. It only has 3 major flaws (Raised pannel lines, bad fitting exhaust halves and the lack of suction doors) but all of that can be adressed and for a beginning, non anal modeler it is actually a very nice choice.
@RedFiveScaleModels3 жыл бұрын
Thats why i addressed it. I did say it would be fine for a beginner but there are better kits out ther for beginners for the price. Its very dated and u less ypu specifically want a harrier then there are better options.

@@RedFiveScaleModels It's all courses for horses of course. I liked it and got to a nice result. It's limitations where actually the reason for me to dip my toes a bit deeper in kit improvement then usual. So I gues it was ""just in time"" for me. Furthemore it does not seem to have any discernable mistakes in its shape and only very minor detail issues (The navigation light on the back should for instance be offset). By the way: I left the engine out and built a maintanance stand for that. On the real aircraft the engine can also be taken out while the exhausts are still in place. The openings on the engine are then capped of with bright red covers, which I also added. The entire wing however has to be taken off so I gues my engine is a spare one or from another jet. : -)

Compared to Tamiya kits, even of the day, it is a pretty ropey kit. I tried it back in the early 80s, 1981 I am sure and was completely unimpressed by it. Thankfully I did not let that kit put me off because I am a bg Tamiya fan. I've done their 1/48 F14A Tomcat and looking forward to their new 1/48 Phantom. The only thing I'd request, which is a common one from me to other video makers, is that you remove the background music. To me it fights the narration all the way through.
