One can complain about certain kits being old. But to the one just getting into model building kits. They are new and looking at them through fresh new imagination and ideas. The satisfaction of accomplishing something. Taking a model and making a diorama. Power to you new to the hobby!

It was 1973. I was eleven years old and on my way to school. On the bus I found a Tamiya catalogue on the seat. I had never thought about models at the time but this catalogue changed my life in a way. I poured over that catalogue for weeks afterwards and I began to be a modeller. Airfix, Revell, but by far the best was Tamiya. Great times.

Tamiya used to be the top of the line model maker and it's getting left behind by other companies who are clearly embracing newer technology.
@TheFifty5ive4 күн бұрын
on the contrary, they are still the leaders, but they have been reduced to one or two new tools, just to show off. They completely ignore the 1/48 AFV line, introducing one a year so we won´t say it, but I am saying it outright. There are so many AFV that need to be in 1/48, and nothing from anyone. That´s the real shame, IMHO.

Used to always buy the Tamiya catalogue in the 1980's and 1990's. Not any more, now the price of it is a complete rip off. It doesn't even have the diorama pages in it that it used to have.

I agree as well. The older versions were more informative, and the dioramas were beautiful. The dirt bike scenes and the military builds were my favorites. Thank you, Andy!

I bought the 1/350 Tirpiz a while back. Upgraded moulding or something the box said. Tosh, date 1978 moulded into the plastic on a lot of major parts. A big photo etch kit and wooden deck kit, which cost twice the price of the kit saved it from being a blob of plastic. That said 30 or 40 years ago Tamiya were the best you could get. Really fallen behind other companies.

@@TamiyaSourceI think they reissue old kits since most modellers are baby boomers and I'm 65! Facing retirement we "boomers" aren't buying anymore and most youngsters are either video gaming or simracing ! New releases are very few so reissues bring in the money but they're short term !

@@rudolphpohl4115 Tamiya has instead been releasing other manufacturers kits: the 1/35 ICM Panhard 178, 1/35 Italeri Horch Kfz.15 to name two. Or they’ll reissue an existing kit with additional figures and minimal photo-etch (1/35 Ford GPA “Seep”). I’d love to see Tamiya make a 1/35 French Hotchkiss H-35 light tank, or a 1/48 Vought OS2U Kingfisher floatplane.

The sad thing about Tamiya is that you can't rely on them anymore for being top notch kits. Yes some of the recent releases are great (1/48 Bf 109 G-6) but most of theire models being sold are 70ties and 80ties kits. I place them in the same category as Revell and Airfix. Not to be trusted.
