Tamiya Bigwig refurbishment project overview!

My task is to take this old Bigwig from Tamiya that’s been sitting for over twenty years and get it running once again!😅
I share a backstory on this particular car along with literature from the rc hobby from the 80’s.
Any advice that can be given in the comments section is greatly appreciated!

nostalgia 😊 what happened to us being kids mate . long summers , rc cars and segas . i think being a kid in the 80’s was a good time . not over run with technology and social media but we had a lot of new technology to be excited about . love the big wig . good project mate . you gonna show us the finished result ?

Absolutely! I’ll do a quick video once it’s done and ready to go back home! I couldn’t have said it any better! The 80’s were a great time to be a kid…just enough technology to have fun but still had to use our imaginations! Ohhh to go back! Many thanks Dom, take care my friend! 👊😊✌️

@@HaydadRC i remember being absolutely obsessed with star wars and the toys . Mum had to be told by a teacher that’s all i talked about 😂 i know a lot is nostalgia but we had some great stuff . couldn’t afford a lot of it but still 😂👍

@rc-dom-uk I had some Star Wars and G.I. Joe’s….by far and away my all time favorite was the M.A.S.K. toy line! An awesome cartoon for two or three years…did you ever see it?

I also always wished I got one of these too! How lucky is that to get that car that was crazy!! Looks like somebody already used different tires on it, I think HS tires will work and you may be able to find the parts on E-bay if you need any. Have fun with it... I want to see the rest of the box!!

Hey Jeremy, a wonderful project! I used to have the BigWig back in the day, it was formidable with its technigold motor and 8.4v pack, nothing touched it in the day. Enjoy the refurbishment, you should give it a run when you’re done, you’ll love it! It’s one Tamiya that I too, wished that I could pick up. 😊😊best wishes to you and the family 😊

1060 and a dumbo RC controller, maybe some bearings, and you’ll have a nice runner

@@IowaBudgetRCBashers I’m thinking a dumbo rc or surpass hobbies radio. I’ve had good luck with both! And I was thinking 1060 or a Tamiya esc I’ve got on hand so I can mount in the original spot!
