In this video I build the Tamiya Blitzer Beetle 2011 which is the re-release of the Blitzer Beetle first released back in 1993. I also make a custom wheelie bar since the buggy will be brushless. I also make a carbon fibre mount for the ESC since it's too big to fit in the usual location. I painted the driver mostly using an airbrush, really just because I wanted to practice my airbrushing.
Thanks for watching.

It’s perfect 👍🏼. The only thing is I’m not the biggest fan of the box art. I would paint mine orange 🍊 but true to the box art in everything else. I think the orange 🍊 body would pop. Great video great build you absolutely nailed the box art perfectly again it’s growing on me a little . It’s a product of its time 93 was the original year I’m almost positive. So it has that vibe with the black then the super bright orange it’s definitely 90,s .

You Sir, are a MASTER with an Airbrush!! I've been Airbrushing for over 4 Decades, and I'm not close to you in fine details. Me best Mate, Mark Bryan had told me to check out your Channel... Thanks mate! Thank you for the kind words. I've been airbrushing for I guess around 7 years now, but started by practicing on normal "art pieces", and I use that term very loosely... I should really say doodling on scrap paper 😂. Mark is a top bloke, any friend of his is a friend of mine, so welcome aboard! I've subbed back, will be keen to see you Blitzer Beetle when it's done. It's a beautiful job mate , you haven't made a video for a few weeks and had me worried. Thank God you're ok and you really came back with a great build. I learn something each video you make . Wife has bought a traxxas e max, I busted it already, just a shock tower . We bought a radar gun, clocked the losi 8ight at 86 km on long grass . The kyosho phsyco kruiser did 76 , it's stock out of the box. Not bad for a stock kyosho, I'm very interested in see this Blitzer beetle go with this set up. It's going to hammer, can't wait. It's just too much fun with these beasts. Take care mate and keep the videos coming.

@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The Tamiya TS paints tend to dull off after drying and really needs to be polished for a really good shine. Instead of that I decided to do top coats of 2K clear for better shine without the need for polishing, and it also gives a harder, more durable finish. I used DNA 2K Diamond Clear in the airbrush. 👍
@rcpete7055
@rcpete7055 3 жыл бұрын
Tamiya sprays cost a fortune now and u used a bunch 😀 I'm a bit more sparing with my applications since they went from 3.99 per can to 9.99 its crazy the inflation in 10yrs 👍👍 Awesome build 😁 RC is getting so expensive no though ⚡
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 3 жыл бұрын
They are kind of expensive, but when you compare them to the DNA 2k clear I used they're very cheap. The 2k was around $220AUD for the 2k, hardener and thinner which might do maybe 10 bodies. I didn't actually use two full cans of Tamiya TS-14 Black paint on the body. The first can was around half full when I began, so I got 3 light coats from the first can and used the second can for one coat. So the job can be done with the one can, I just use up older cans first. 🙂👍. I hear ya though mate, I think even on top of inflation we're seeing a lot of "covid tax" on RC stuff. 👍

Very nice. I enjoyed your build and custom parts. I'm also wondering if in a rare event the Blitzer lands hard on the wheely bar it looks to me like some of the energy would be transferred to the gearbox case via the turnbuckles and maybe crack it where the bars screw onto them. Would it be better to just allow the alloy to bend because of that possible event ?

What chassis is it I got a 1993 version I’m not sure what kind of lipo I use

It a Blitzer Beetle re-release chassis. Same chassis as the original 1993 model. I use a Gens Ace 4000mah 2s LiPo in mine, fits quite nicely👍

Pretty for a basher is certainly not always needed as long as the 4 wheels stay on you can keep on going heh. In the future perhaps a lexan body might be a good idea rather then the plastic body for durability, should be one from TBG i think for like 30 usd or so.
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
I had thought about a lexan body but didn't bother. Although I call it a basher, it really won't get a lot of use. So unless something catastrophic happens it should be fine... "it should be fine" famous last words ay. 🤣👍

Thanks! I'm actually planning to do an airbrush video, it would only be a short video as I have a few videos where I airbrush bodies or parts. I'm thinking the video will be more about airbrush type, compressor, paint types and thinning. Hopefully the video will be out in a week or two. The airbrush I always use is an Iwata HP-C Plus which uses a 0.3mm needle. It's great for fine detail work, but can also move enough paint to spray a whole body. Hope this helps till I get the video out. 🙂👍

Best blitzer beetle build I've seen, superb attention to detail. I have a stadium blitzer in bits waiting for a restoration, and am seriously considering building it as a beetle now. Out of interest what did you use to cut/trim the carbon fibre sheet for esc mount?
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you like it. The Stadium Blitzer is cool as is but will also be cool as a Beetle. For cutting the carbon,I don't actually remember. Since it's only the one small piece I would have used either a hacksaw or the Dremel with a metal cutting wheel. Both work well for small pieces, the Dremel is faster of course but it creates more dust. Then just some sand paper to smooth the edges. 🙂👍

This makes me want to build a Blitzer now. Curious about the hex adapters for the rear wheels. Are they 12mm?

Very nice job. I purchased an unfinished 1993 Blitzer shelf queen last weekend. The previous owner left the body unpainted and never apply the decals so I am going to now finish it. A few questions if you don’t mind. I noticed you did not paint the nose and left it the original molded orange color. Did you do this for a better color match to the decal set? Do you attach your decals wet to get them to align better without live in bubbles or do you just attach them dry right off the decal sheet? I noticed your body had the two sand scorcher holes at the top. Did the 2011 version use a different body than the 1993 version? Thank you
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob. Awesome! Yeah I left the nose unpainted purely to match the decals, it actually matches much better on camera than in real life too. I apply my decals either way, in this case I applied them dry. Usually if I think I'm gonna have issues, I'll grab the soapy water. Yeah, my body is same as Sand Scorcher, I can't say if it's the same as the '93 Blitzer Beetle though as I don't have one... I just looked at the '93 manual and I'm not seeing the holes in the body. I'm thinking Tamiya got lazy for the rere Blitzer and used the Sand Scorcher body. 👍

@@RCHobbyShed Thank you for the reply. I think I’m going to follow the same route as you did and just paint the body black minus the nose. I will also probably stick with the stock motor Like I did for my sand scorcher to keep from having too much fun with it so it stays nice For the shelf. I have plenty of other vehicles I can beat up
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheDeLeonGarageCollection No probs! Yeah not much point in painting the nose. I know what you mean, anything more than the stock motor will eventually lead to a broken body. I plan to run mine of soft surfaces, it's first outing will be the beach. Still will have fingers crossed it doesn't roll over. 🤞👍

@RCHobbyShed

The Blitzer Beetle is fun if you plan to run it brushless but the body may not last long. At least the Kyosho Beetle has the Polycarbonate body, and the gears maybe more durable too. On the other hand, parts are easier to find and cheaper for the Blitzer Beetle... That one is a hard decision!

Flipping the steering uprights does cure the bump steer nicely BUT you have to limit and lose a lot of travel. Now i know its 2WD and you can flip the back out with power BUT it just dont seem right!!!!!! It really annoys me with my blitzer. Only thing i hate about mine,is i went HW senserless and the cogging drives me mad at low revs,will never buy a SL motor again,
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it's probably not the perfect cure. I've heard a lot say it doesn't make much difference to steering performance in either configuration. For me it's just more about how it looks when I push the front down, I can't stand the wheels pointing in all directions lol. Can't say I've noticed much cogging with SL motors, that said I'll probably notice it more now and it'll drive me mad too! 😂
