Nice video. With the DF03 Replace the rear diff joints that are (half plastic & half steel) with all steel Diff Joints like the front diff has MJ1 & MJ2 Diff Joints P/N: (9808059). Have a look at the front diff for comparison & make the rear the same as the front diff, with some upgrade diff balls, Tamiya Tungsten-Carbide diff ball set P/N: 53124. If you can find the slipper clutch set, that would be a bonus. Cheers

I've sealed the diffs with a very thin coat of silicone. First I put mold release on the main diff housing and cover (paste wax.will work too) and then a thin layer of silicone RTV. No more dirt and it will come apart cleanly.

Hey Glenn Try using 3M Rhino, or helicopter tape for the underside of your kits. You can buy it by the metre x 150mm wide. It’s clear, thick and kind of self healing. I discovered it and used it on my mountain bike, to stop cable rub etc. It is perfect for flat surfaces and you just trim it up. I’ll try and find a picture and a link where I got mine from (eBay). You can also use sticky backed foam to make a gasket especially for the spur and pinion cover. Again I’ll find a picture for you and Facebook it to you!👍🤓🇦🇺

WD40 is pretty good at getting sticky residue off without risking damaging the plastic. Lighter fluid (Zippo type) is better and shouldn’t do any damage, but you should do a test before committing to it. I just recently built a DT-03, which is a very fun car. My next car will be a TT-02B (Plasma Edge II). I was then debating whether to go for a DF-03 after that, but I am now thinking of going for a TT-02 Ford Mustang instead. It’s a shame because I think the Dark Impact looks amazing.

I think dust is possibly being drawn through the endcap of the 540,just had a brainwave on scratch protection for the underside a product that's used for skateboards called Santa cruz everslick , it's a slippery adhesive plastic that's very tough but thin! Used it back in the 90s

It seems that even with very precisely fitting gear box halves, dirt will always find a way in. So, I've been using silicone sealant (a.k.a. RTV) to seal my RC's gear boxes. I'll apply it very sparingly in order to minimize squeeze-out (don't want it to gum-up the gears) using a small screwdriver like a miniature putty knife until I've formed a continuous bead along one of the mating surfaces. Anyway, it works for me - the dirt stays out. I very much appreciate your videos -- good stuff!!

@@TAMIYALegends It really works a treat. I use it to remove old decals from 90's mountain bikes. You just need a squirt (!) on a rag and do it in small parts. It'll come off dead easy. Rinse with water, done.

Blimey Glen all that crap in the gearbox!!!. I must admit when I see you running on the dirt it does make my eyes water thinking of the filth being sucked into the nooks and crannies!!!!!!!. Maybe a bit of silicone grease smeared around the covers could help seal things up. Maybe the muck would also get trapped in the grease if it does get in????

As i said earlier, WD40 disintegrates plastics and soft rubber, like seals. The manufacturer of WD40 can say what ever they want but the truth is it's not good for those materials. Materials can look like they are not affected and it can work few months or years but eventually it destroys tires etc.
