I missed seeing this when it dropped. It is amazing the gears were not destroyed with the gear missing the bushings! I don't like the plastic bushings either but they are better then leaving them out of the kit all together! LOL!! I am glad it was still good and you didn't have to go hunting for that! I remember from the comments in the unboxing that it was missing the bushings but I was still shocked to see it! 😧

That is the problem with trying to rebuild/restore these old Tamiyas. You are going on what the seller tells you, but you never know what you will find in a gearbox.

Awesome build project dude! I have one to restore this summer also. Great to see someone else giving the Madcap some love 😎

Nice Craig! Let me know if you need anything. It's a fun build, I'm actually in the process of finding spares and hop ups to have just in case we have breakage 😂

@@eekrc I am doing the same at the moment. It is hard to track down parts now but there are still some out there. I am planning to use the front bulkhead and rear gearbox to make a Super Astute hybrid! Should be fun!

@@theoagrc Awesome! Are you going to use Super Astute shock towers? Those are still available through Tamiya.

@@eekrc Yep and the chassis. Picked up some CVAs too. It is going to be an interesting project and I have had some help in getting the thoughts together. I will be watching your build with great interest pal 👍🏻

Good video. I have a madcap dressed up as an astute. Great cars. However I think the anti wear grease is supposed to be for metal parts and the ceramic grease for plastic gears
@eekrc
@eekrc Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the ceramic grease is their thinnest and is intended for plastic gears. The anti-wear grease is supposed to be for thrust washers and high friction areas like dog bones or diff internals. It is safe for plastics as well, so I use it very sparingly on older gears and parts that I want to keep a very thin layer of protection on. I have found that over time the ceramic grease just flys off the gears anyway.

@@eekrc yeah you're right. When opening a gearbox case most of the grease is splattered all over the place lol

@@leehurst6922 Do you have any hop ups or Astute parts on your Madcap? The front shock upright seems to be a weak point on this car, I've been looking for an upgrade.

I was shocked too, I should have taken a video with the motor running and the cover off, it literally rocked from side to side depending on the direction of the motor.

I restored my madcap and the only part I’m missing is the link from the manual speed controller to the servo. If you have any love to buy one

I have spares of most parts, unfortunately that is not one of them. But if I come across one I'll let you know.
