A great build and I enjoyed watching you make the mighty Beau!! You inspired me to make it! I lived in Malta for three years and the airfields in use during the war had loose stony surfaces with lots of dust and grit. If they survived more than a week or two the underside and nose/leading-edges of aircraft became very weathered (with exposed aluminium) where they were scoured by said stones, dust and grit swirling around and blown into the air by the engines.

I've just masked off the roundels on this model. I used vallejo "air war" colour set over a hairsprayed aluminium. Got a little bit of reaction but has added to the scratchy, sun-beaten look. I drybrushed bronze over aluminium for engine cowlings as I think the copper that tamiya calls for is too bright. I think youve got it just right. I like your post shading with the straight edge mask, ill give that a whirl too. Good video, well done!

The Beaufighter is a lovely aircraft but did not have turboprop engines as the turboprop is a type of jet engine that delivers jet thrust that drives the aircraft propeller. The Beaufighter had radial engines of various types and the RR Merlin for the MkII. The German a/c were also not turboprops.

In my opinion, Tamiya produces the best models' hands down. Everything fits nearly perfectly, not too many parts yet detailed, easy to follow directions, the best box art. ( Chinese models; Meng, Trumpeter, Dragon..way too many parts) Anyway, great weathering job.

Thats a very nice Beau 👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻 One of my favourites and a bit of an unsung hero..... You're definitely on a roll at the mo! The exaggerated dihedral on the horizontal tail was introduced after the original flat tail was found to give some directional instability on take off and landing.....just out of interest. Also, out of interest, when painting the second camo colour and masking like that, I always get a touch of bleed/overspray unless I keep the air pressure low and the spray direction perpendicular to the surface. A slight angle and under it sneaks.....the rascally stuff! Classy looking job o' work, anyhoo......
@machmodels Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Super interesting about the dihedral… definitely makes sense now that you have mentioned it! I’ll have to try that spraying technique next time I have a camo to do! Thanks so much😁

@@machmodels Hi, build progress of the starfighter is in its early stages, just build up the cockpit but adding quite a lot of photoetch as cockpit details are good but not great. The general fit , detail crisp mould and lack of any flash is encouraging. Probably won't have it finished for a month so I'll let you know my thoughts overall on your next video.

Thank you dude! The joy of Xtreme Metals is they are airbrush ready!! The pigment is so small that it doesn’t clog up your airbrush whatsoever… the only thing I would recommend is making sure you don’t spray it with a smaller nozzle aim for 0.3 or higher😁

Hi, re Tamiya where are you? You sound English? For two years you are rather good. Do you know how many models you have made? Bob England

Thank you very much for the kind words! The plastic model world has changed so very much, the detail on some of the kits now days is just mind boggling! In some cases almost too much! I recommend trying some of Tamiyas 1/48 older kits like the Beaufighter which was recently completed on the channel, brilliant balance between a nice amount of detail but a simplistic and easy build up! Hope that offers a solution for you🤙🏻😉

I just completed this same kit. It's not one of Tamiya's best. I have built several ship, tank, and airplane kits from Tamiya, and most of them have been a wonderful experience but not this one. This one must have messed quality control because there were several fit issues that I had with it. I built the old Revell 1/32 scale Beaufighter a few years back, and it fit together better. Yes, Tamiya generally makes great kits, but some times they just don't.
