I’m keeping mine in the box for awhile. I’ve heard that this is a limited release and I like to keep those on the shelf until I see if it becomes hard to find in the future. My kids and I enjoy seeing them on the shelf anyway. That way we get to look at them on display as if they were in a hobby shop and enjoy the box art. It’s always bitter sweet opening up a new kit. Thanks for the build video. Might be back here whenever it’s time to build it up.

I understand! Yeah, these Tamiyas are a work of art, and the box art is always excellent, I need to frame all of mine and hang them on the wall. But I needed to build this one as in lockdown and nothing to do! I think Tamiya are releasing another batch in June, we will see. All the best from Mark... :)

Hello mate. Well that was a masterclass of a build video. You have said before that my bash videos inspired you to do some well your build videos inspired me to do the one of the Brat. I have sort of copied you! You know I had episode 1 loaded up on KZbin ready to go live and I thought I'd just have a look at your Wild one build for comparison. Well I noticed that a lot of my shots looked a bit dingy compared to yours so I took it down and re-edited it with the brightness turned up. It's still not quite as good as yours. Are you using a video camera rather than the GoPro? You were saying about zooming in. I've just got the GoPro above the desk at a distance that means I've got space to work. I'm just cropping it in the editor. Does mean that the instructions aren't quite so clear. Also mine starts off more with me thinking about the instructions on camera. By the second episode I'm thinking first and then starting the camera. Anyway it's up tomorrow. How goes things generally? Is Louise feeling better now? Hope all is well mate 😀
@MarkBryanRC4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, mate! It's great to have inspired each other in different ways! I have done so many build vids that I should be getting a little bit better at them! I don't have the ability to crop a video in my editor, so the zoom on my Sony Handycam is a must. I have it mounted above me and just zoom in and out as needed. But yeah, I also need to turn the brightness up in the editor - the trouble is that filming above the bright white of the manual with spotlights throws the camera's contrast settings and it records a dull image. The Black of the plastic parts makes it even worse for the camera! All good here mate, and thanks, Lou is feeling much better! BTW have you seen the Tomley entry to your challenge? He's given you another big shout out! :))
@PeteWylieRC4 жыл бұрын
@@MarkBryanRC ooh yes I have just seen Phil's vid. Really good isn't it. Nice of him to give me another shout out. Hey I did get an insulting message from someone on that video. I was just saying the other day that I hardly get any. Anyway on the subject of the build vids I have the same issue with the bright white instruction manual making the camera give a dull picture. Are you still using Microsoft move maker. I'm sure there was a way to brighten up the video although yours looks plenty bright enough already. I'm fairly certain you can crop too. It's ages since I had that one and can't remember. Anyway you are getting top results without needing those features. Good to be getting some entries into the contest. There is another chap who has no editing facilities but is going to try and do a one take indoor micro crawler course. Glad to hear that Louise is getting better. Laters mate 😀
@MarkBryanRC4 жыл бұрын
@@PeteWylieRC Hehe - now you got insults - proves you are famous now!!! A$$holes everywhere mate! I tried to say (badly) I can adjust the brightness but not able to crop, I'll have another look. I've still got my original terrascorcher. Didn't know they rereleased it and I'm tempted to get a new one for nostalgic reasons. I reckon I could build it without instructions due to all the times stripping and clean it lol.

Nice one - you must like this chassis, it is rather good apart from that weak A5 part! Isn't Moly grease unsafe for plastics?
@MarkBryanRC2 жыл бұрын
Hi Derrick - I think that some plastics may be degraded by moly grease, but as Tamiya supply moly grease with their kits I assume it's OK with their plastics. I've used it for years and never had a problem, I have a 1986 Monster Beetle with this grease in the diff and it has never broken!

Hi there! Welcome! There is no need to apologise, we all started on our first build! Great you have the Dark Impact (DF-03?) I hope you and your son enjoy it. It is quite different from the Terra Scorcher, although some aspects are similar, such as the shock building and the differentials, electronics and the way a Tamiya goes together in general. Yes, you can use automotive general purpose grease if you like, but the kit will come with a small amount of Tamiya grease included. Have fun, and if you have any other questions, please ask as I am happy to help. :)

Has anyone else noticed that part E1 has been used with a washer instead of the real thrust races that were in the original car, the E1/washer setup is what you would have used on the lower spec models like the Thundershot etc, the Terra Scorcher was supposed to be the fully upgraded of the line, if you watch the old Tamiya videos from back in the day, the Terra Scorcher video mentions 24 ball and thrust races, these 3 thrust races are not in the ReRe kit, odd bit of cost saving on Tamiya's part, not sure how much of a performance difference they would make if any but still they were part of what made this model different from the others in the family. If you look at the original manual you can see the difference in that build step and in the back pages that list the included parts, odd.
@MarkBryanRC4 жыл бұрын
Hi Darren, that's a very good point! I wasn't aware that the original had thrust bearings, I only have the Thunder Dragon original. I just checked the manual, and you are right, the "lesser" models had the E1 and metal washer. Good news is, after stripping and rebuilding my Thunder Dragon after almost 20 years - there was no discernible wear anywhere in the gears at all. I just cleaned and re-greased it and put it back together, still running fine now! But yeah, odd they didn't include the thrust bearings! :-)
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks4 жыл бұрын
That's RIGHT. I built mine in 1989... Memory's VERY dim. It did have ROLLER Thrust Bearings, just like the Avante and other top shelf Kits. Hey, at least they didn't give those bloody Hockey Puck plastic BUSHINGS!! 😖 But yeah, that was a small fail for Tamiya.
@cheesyp694 жыл бұрын
Yeah its a bit odd as its only 3 bearings so not a real cost saving on Tamiya's part really, My ReRe Bigwig has thrust races where say the Boomerrang wouldn't in standard original/rere form, its odd the things i notice, should get out more lol.
