It was a lesson from Mr. R.'s mother to remain hopeful in bad times, like seeing footage on the TV news of war and natural disasters and violence, and reinforce faith in humanity. I don't know how this is organised in the US, but in some countries around the world, if you do not help a person in distress or in danger (the minimum you can do is call 911), you could end up in prison. If when it comes to humans this is a duty under the law, this should apply for animals in distress too.

I used to do dog rescue. It was one of the most satisfying things I did in my life. I had all sorts of dogs, some severely abused, some almost entirely fine - all sorts of personalities too. It's not always a happy ending though, I had to put down dogs just because they were too dangerous, some were sick when I got them and didn't make it. But I still value the time I did it. As my two dogs that I adopted, as they aged, I couldn't continue to do rescue just because my dogs were so elderly. When I had to put my final dog down, I just don't think I can continue doing rescue. Eventually the negatives outweighed the positives, and it's just too heartbreaking at times. I value the time I did it, I was a great dog owner exceptional even, but I think nearly everybody burns out on this type of stuff.

I would have done the same thing. I once rescued a baby deer on the side of the road. She was hit by a car, the police wanted to shoot her, but I took her home, put her in a large dog crate for the night with some soft blankets, and drove her to a wild life rescue in the am. I named her Faith. She was rehabilitated and realized in 6 months with other deer that were at the rehab facility. It was amazing to have a deer in my house. She was sweet, gentle and never tried to hurt me. God bless the lady who saved this beautiful fox!!!

Great work, Monika! People like you and the good folks at Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary give me hope for our species. I'm a very large man that used to work construction and did some cage fighting.......and dammit this made me cry....(not a lot, but it made me cry)....I think I'm getting soft.

Ahhh Thanks Cosmo for the LOL comment...made our day here at the sanctuary! It was truly an incredible experience for us all to watch Tammy regain her strength and dignity and once again become the wild and free foxy girl she was meant to be :-)

Monika Melichar I'm not very religious, but I think if angels exist, you guys are doing some of their work. My dream if I ever win the lottery is to buy a huge plot of land and build a bunch of small houses on it. Then I will get any stray dogs, cats, and other animals in my area that can't find homes, and bring them to live on my "Happy Animal Farm". Then I will get any homeless people that are willing to come and live in those small houses, and care for the pets. For payment they can live in the houses rent free, have as much free food as they want, and also be paid a fair amount for the work done. They can live there as long as they choose to, and if they choose to save their wages, they can then begin to build themselves a larger home on my land free of charge. That is my dream, and you guys give me hope that it can be done. So thanks for that.
