WARNING: The mask you're using is surgical, I believe. You should be wearing at LEAST an N95 type mask if you're going to be sanding clay indoors! It would be better to sand outdoors on your balcony if possible, for now. Be so, so, so careful girl, because you can get some very serious & deadly health complications if you inhale too much silica dust, or just sanding dust in general. 😱 Edit: I accidentally deleted the other comment that you responded to, oops lol. Doing it once is alright, no worries, as long as you keep using your N95 in the future like you mentioned you usually do, everything is well! Thanks for the response and have a lovely day.

As someone who has constant issues with asthma thanks to clay dust exposure (a farm, in my case), I've become a lot more serious about protecting my lungs. I sculpt with ceramic clay, and even though my process is a lot cleaner than throwing on the wheel, I'm meticulous about wiping my space down with damp cloths. Any time there's a natural pause in creation (stopping to eat, starting on the next figurine, etc), everything (including tools) all get wiped down. Also saving up to buy one of those medical grade air filters that capture silica dust particles. Because while I can wear a mask, my doggo can't!

All her little figures are made with polymer clay. Polymer clay is not a mineral clay and contains no silicates. It is a plastic polymer mainly PVC.

@@ClaudiaJasalavich Actually fumed silica is a common gel agent used in polymer clay, but even if you find a polymer clay without any silica, breathing in any dust from sanding is hazardous. Definitely a must to wear N95 in a well ventilated area.
