It's hard being a person of morals. Honest people are expected to say nothing negative or they won't get a job. Whereas bullies and toxic employees are often employed or promoted. Your upload has been the best I've seen so far. Thank you.

It's crazy that people don't understand that if you're "liked" you can get a job. Jobs will train anyone to do the work if they like you. Make them like you! Best job tip that I've found that worked the best!

Yes, and if nobody likes you... you don't get the job. In my experience, the harder I tried to get along, the worse I got treated. I have to be authentic.

... Yes, but what if that isn't true. I'm not looking to take on a lot more responsibility in my new role? I get your point about keeping it positive and leaving personalities out of it. I've been at my company for a very long time. I've never really fit in with the "culture" there. I guess I'm lucky they kept me on as long as they did. My boss was never satisfied with my work. She likes to humiliate me in front of my coworkers. I don't know how I've endured it for so long. I'm nearly 60 years old. A healthy work family balance is very important to me. I just want to do my job to the best of my ability, and go home.

Hey Tammy, do you think it's ok to say "the leadership principles weren't a strong match for my own and I tend to perform much better when I'm given autonomy by leaders."? I could say "I didn't see a long term career path there, etc" but I was only there for 9 months and am worried they will think that's not enough time to realize that. Thanks so much for your video, btw! Super helpful :-)

Hi Julie! I think the difference in the leadership principles is a very good answer - it keeps personalities out of the story, which is always preferable. You are smart to follow it up with what you are looking for in leadership (autonomy), so that they understand in what environment you thrive. You essentially called your last boss a micromanager without calling him/her a micromanager!
@juliehitchcock1253
@juliehitchcock1253 11 ай бұрын
Ok, awesome!! And yep, it indirectly conveys that I was dealing with a micromanager. :-) Thanks so much, Tammy! I appreciate your feedback and really love your content. Also wanted to add that it’s unfortunate we have to sugarcoat negative experiences in the workplace. I was thinking how nice it would be if we could all be honest.

It's hard to get paid what you're truly worth when you work for the State government. Keep gaining different skill sets to round out your experience, so if you ever lead the gov. for a corporate/private industry job, you will be more marketable and extremely valuable. (=$$$)

My real answer to this question in the interview- "I joined my previous company through a referral, believing it to be a great opportunity with ambitious projects and the potential for increased responsibilities. However, as time went on, it became clear that the execution of those projects never fully materialized. There were ongoing discussions about mergers, acquisitions, and even plans to go public, but the company's financial situation took a hit due to the pandemic. Export revenues from pre-COVID sales were not realized, which severely impacted cash flow. Unfortunately, this led to the company entering liquidation. It was a matter of timing and external circumstances, rather than the opportunity itself. While it wasn’t the outcome I had hoped for, it was a valuable learning experience."

😁 it's the company that sticks their square pegs in the employees' round hole. Joke aside can an interviewee counter ask why did the last employee leave their role you're applying for?
@TammyKabell-crc
@TammyKabell-crc Жыл бұрын
very funny! and to answer your question, I think the question you ask that employer is completely valid, and I encourage you to ask it. In fact, go into any interview with a nice long list of questions you want the answers to... and you may get a chance to ask them all in a first interview. But if not, keep them for future rounds in the hiring process. you want to show them that it's just as important to you that it's a good fit as it is to them.
