From 1997-2005 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the Best Defenses of All Time. Under Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin the Bucs placed top 10 in defense 9 out of 9 years. 7 out of the 9 years they were top 5. 8 different defenders were sent to the pro bowl (Donnie Abraham, Hardy Nickerson, John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks, Shelton Quarles, and Ronde Barber) 5 of which were All Pro at some point. Sapp and Brooks were named Defensive player of the year during that span ( Sapp 1999) (Brooks 2002) The 2002 Buccaneers were the #1defense in yards allowed and points allowed. They gave up an oppose passer rating of 48.4. They were the last defense in NFL History to hold opposing teams to under 200 points (they gave up 196) They had 31 interceptions in regular season play. SO FAR, the Bucs defense during this time have had two first ballot Hall of Famers. (Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks) It would be no surprise to eventually see Lynch, Barber and Tony Dungy. I also personally believe Simeon Rice should make it. He is one of the most underrated players of all time. In his five healthy years as a Buccaneer he posted 11,15,15,12,and 14 sacks. In the 02 Post season he had 4.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 3 games. Simeon has 121 career sacks. Simeon Rice was one of the biggest reasons the Bucs final won a Super Bowl. Before 2001 the Bucs had to work with Marcus Jones, Regan Upshaw, Chidi Ahanotu, Steve White etc. Those guys were no where near the caliber of Rice. Who knows how many Super Bowls the Bucs could have won had Simeon been there in 99 and 2000, I truly believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame. Anyway, Go Bucs. Winston will lead us to the promise land. I believe.

Give my boy Donnie Abraham some love. Wasn't on that Superbowl team, but he was apart of that scarp that started it all The most underated corner In the history of the NFL. Had 5 or more picks 5 of the 6 years he was there. Numbers don't lie.

Absolutely!! I always say that and I've always been disappointed that donnie, warrick dunn and Hardy nickerson weren't with us that glorious super bowl year because they fought and scrapped with us from 97 -2002 battling through the playoffs not to mention the absolute highway robbery of the 99 championship.

Donnie Abraham in that MNF game vs the Vikings in '99! Do you guys remember when Hardy was given the keys to the city of Tampa after his Pro Bowl selection in '93? That was the state of the Bucs in those days. 1999 Defense turned the NFL upside down. Shout out to Chidi and Culpepper too.

I remember watching this video right after you released it 5 years ago. I remember thinking, "Man what I'd give to go back to those glory days." Well, it's a few days after our dominance in Superbowl 55 and I am happy to say, we did rise again, even if it was just for one fantastic playoff run!

When you face four hall of famers on one defense, you are screwed as an opposing offense. Tough shit.

2002 bucs, 5 hall of famers on defense, had arguably the best defense in history 2020 bucs, potentially 5 hall of famers, will have one of the craziest offenses in nfl history. Hopefully the end result for this year is the same as 2002

Great video of that time period. Unfortunately, there were hardly any Hardy Nickerson highlights! He was the main cog in the turnaround from the Culverhouse era to the Glazer era and taught Brooks how to be a pro!

I also believe QB Jameis Winston will lead this team back to the glory days. Alongside him will be DT Gerald McCoy, LBs Lavonte David and Kwon Alexander, G Ali Marpet, OT Donovan Smith, RB Doug Martin, and WR Mike Evans. These guys are the future of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, with the draft additions of CB Vernon Hargreaves III and DE Noah Spence, the Bucs will be a team on the rise.

Tom Rain he had 2 years bruh. If the "scouting reports" we're gonna stop him he wouldn't have gotten 4K passing yards a second consecutive year. I compare Jameis to Doug Williams but able to throw the deep ball better than DW

This Bucs team had an "Go to hell " attitude. This current Bucs team doesn't have that or the talent. Maybe one day,but I miss seeing a great defense in Tampa

it's because the modern NFL Is being changed by safety issues "you can hit a receiver if..." " you can hit a qb if..." and so on. as a defensive player. you are taught to be the biggest man on the field, to hit as hard as you can and be agressive. with these new rules, you can't be a true defense without getting a fuck load of penalties. I liked football when you could hit a big good hit on a receiver and not be a penalty every time. that's coming from a WR

These guys were awesome. Held the greatest show on turf to 6 points till they scored that final td. Aggression defined man, truly. How many points did this D score? Its gotta be a record or damn close.

VERY nice video. You let remember me the great days. Nice composing of the parts of the story. (Maybe we don't agree, but in my opinion: I would have enjoyed seeing a Dungy-driven-Defense playing against the Bellichik-Brady-Thing. The bucs-Management was impatient and took 1 year with chucky and the fame of the Championsship, but the spirit of the turnaround was away after it. Tony Dungy made Sapp, Brooks, Barber and Lynch to those dominating men and hopefully they will and up all in the HOF. justmy5cents) Thanks for the video and all the flashbacks :-)
