Hämeenpuisto in Tampere is the longest unified park corridor in the Nordic countries related to the urban planning of the 1830s. Hämeenpuisto and the significant public buildings and residential apartment buildings that surround it built in different decades form a historically layered, scale-unified urban space.
Hämeenpuisto, which is more than a kilometer long, leads as an esplanade-type street across the isthmus of the city of Tampere from Näsijärvi to Pyhäjärvi.
Hämeenpuisto's four straight trees consist of lindens and maples. Along the park, there are plenty of significant buildings, schools and factory buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, public buildings built between 1880 and 1980, and apartment buildings from the 20th century. In the middle of the park, at the western end of Hämeenkatu, is the neo-Gothic Aleksanteri church (Decker 1881) and the surrounding Pyynik church park. Hämeenpuisto is also bordered by e.g. Ship company house (Federley 1908, Tiitola 1939), Länsipuisto (Kallio 1927), Amurinlinna quarter (Bryggman 1950-54), Finlayson's little palace (Thesleff 1897), Metso main library (Pietilät 1986), Tuulensuu (Strömmer 1928), Aleksanteri school (Sjöström 1873) , Calonius 1886, Lönn 1903), Työväentalo (Tiitola 1899, Pettersson 1905, Heikki Kaartinen 1912, B. Strömmer 1930), Tampereen Työväe theater (architecture Marjatta and Martti Jaatinen 1985), Pyyniki school (Lönn 1899, 1931) and the Klingendahl factory building ( Petterson 1897, 1904, 1905).
