I have a PhD in child development & have taught for over 30+ years, including a specialty in autism therapy (ABA). I agree with you a MILLION percent. Anyone who's worked with these special kids/ppl knows someone like Tamera is no way autistic (esp bc social communication is the prime area of deficit). Tamera does not have trouble with social cues. Tamera does not respond overly literally bc she misses social cues. She does not display other physical traits (odd gait, tippy-toe walkinh) nor any self-stim behavior when under stress. Tamera smiling measly when she lobs a veiled insult then pretends to be saying it out of concern is a very sophisticated social awareness. Zack, you are correct & on the right side. Tamara is more likely a sociopathic, narrsisric imo (not diagnosing).
@CrazyMomma007
@CrazyMomma007 Күн бұрын
@Zach I would highlight there is a known, classic deficit in PERSPECTIVE TAKING. Autistic individuals have issues re theory of mind. Not understanding one's inner thoughts are only known to self, as self is creating those thoughts, as well as an inability to understand OTHER PPL can't know what's in the autistic individuals' mind. Lying isn't easy bc they assume the other person has access. Anyway, lack of empathy in a narcissist, mean girl IS NOT THE SAME as an autistic individuals' inability to understand that others EVEN HAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. Tamara's social game playing clearly shows she DOES understand other ppl can't see what she'd thinking/feeling/planning. Tamara has consistently blind-sided cast mats for a dramatic moment. She chooses to ignore the pain she causes by ignoring the other person's perspective, but she clearly knows they have a different perspective (theory of mind).

Thank you for posting this . I have been working in disabilities since I was 16 also my son was diagnosed officially at the age of 3 . I pretty much knew he did by his actions and lack of attention towards us . His official diagnosis took three years . He went through a battery of tests Dr appts , etc . The self stem is one of the key factors in his diagnosis. He also has 3 additional diagnosis on the DSMR . Having worked also with the different spectrums over the years I feel I can somewhat know when I see someone on the spectrum. Never have I even thought of TamTam on the spectrum, I feel now she has put the knowledge of autism backwards in the public . I truly believe no therapist that is licensed or certified would diagnose after a 2 hour session. Especially in California after the many misdiagnosed cases in this state . Everything you described is behaviors I have seen over the years both at home and at work . I can’t believe Bravo would allow their employee to use this disorder for their own selfish reasons

Thanks for taking a tough stand Zack. I’m a mental health professional of 20+ years. In the past 5 -10 years, young people consistently come in with a laundry list of self diagnosis, including ADHD, OCD, borderline, personality disorder, autism spectrum disorder, etc. Everyone that’s been in a bad relationship is a victim of narcissistic abuse. While I am glad there is more awareness and acceptance of mental health issues, the pendulum has swung far the other way, which can severely negate those individuals with actual, clinical diagnosis. You said it perfectly, we all have traits of varying levels of these disorders, it becomes a clinical diagnosis when it impairs your functioning in multiple areas to a significant degree. It’s extremely frustrating.

The idea of being diagnosed out of nowhere in a single appointment raises so many red flags... Having said that, I'm thirty-four and this past year, within two appointments with a new psychologist, she was asking whether I'd looked into whether or not I had autism and got me to complete lots of online tests. After doing so, she recommended I see another psychologist with more experience with neurodivergence. This second psychologist got me to complete the same tests and we talked some, and she then started operating under the assumption that I was autistic in future appointments. I wasn't content with this and wanted something more definitive so sought out a diagnosis. The neuropsych I saw generally does four one hour appointments (plus prior paperwork such as school reports, tests, self-reported history of experience), but was more than satisfied within two hours and gave me a positive diagnosis. So it doesn't HAVE to be a super drawn out process. But I appreciate you sharing your own family history and experience and perspective on this, and I do hope she is more cautious going forward with this topic.

Zach, I have to agree with what you’re saying here. I feel sh*tty questioning anybody’s diagnoses. I have MS, Fibromyalgia, GAD (anxiety), CPTSD, and more. I have struggled with others questioning my own Dx. However, this feels so off to me. The timing of her sharing this is suspect, to say the least. Tamra has not exhibited outward signs of this, on the show. It feels like it’s an excuse for her bad behavior. Lacking empathy is also a symptom of narcissism. That feels more on the mark, if anything.

That is BS ! A therapist couldn’t diagnose that alone. She would have to go to a doctor and have several tests run. This is her excuse for her bad behavior ! 😡

Im not sure at this point who will even read my comment. I have a 21 yo son and almost 18yo daughter who had both been both diagnosed with adhd since very young. My son had all the classic signs of adhd and i never questioned nor really knew what a high functioning person with autism looked like. I only barely understood severe autism. When he started drivers ed (much later than most kids due to fear) and he started working at almost 18, a whole miriad of things started happening coming to light and my questioning led me to high level autism. He was almost 18, we knew he would never go to college, almost all of his gaming friends (his only friends really, besides 1 kid in school who btw also had autism). I need to add i started homeschooling my son in 8th grade and my daughter the year prior who was at the end of her 4th grade year. In deep diving this diagnosis , my daughter who is 3 years younger started working and drivers ed. We started seeing all these things with her that we couldn't understand. I couldn't ever keep her taking adhd meds to help with school and she said she never felt they helped her at all. She also got told she had adhd from my sons psychiatrist when very young. I thought she was bipolar. She was put on mid stabilizers for serveral years. Not sure they helped anything. Shed get angry so easy, she'd be a demon to her brother. Her teachers thought she was an angel but she'd come home and lose it every afternoon. I tried to get help from her school, i told them its lije she tries to be so perfect all day long and was worn out by the end of the day. We fought every morning to get her dressed, everything that touched her, bothered her. I had to but her ponchos for winter cuz she wouldn't wear a coat. Lets not talk about her socks, behind the knees, and her almost with king sleeves shirts. Id tell them its like she's got some sensory issue. At work, her social issues and cues caused her to lose her first job already. We just got her into the testing Dr for possible autism, and dyslexia which i truly believe she has. It's affected all her schooling. THE Dr said she doesn't have have autism nor ADHD. her ADHD Dr at this children's hospitol when we were trying to get her to be allowed to go get tested said all the social symptoms im describing is classic ADHD. So this testing Dr said she doesn't have autism nor ADHD, nor dyslexia. She tested in 1 area for sure my daughter said she thought it was 2 areas but he said in this 1 or 2 areas she tested at a 1 percent out of 100. So 99 percent of people tested higher than her. He said the area this was in wouldnt affect her now that she's almost done with high school. I said um she wants to go to college. She isn't gonna be happy working for minimum wage and living at home. Shes very high iq but i believe some type of learning disability keeps her from successfully being able to spell, she can memorize like crazy but she can't memorize every word so she can't spell 4 letter words some times. She cant do math well because the numbers me's her up so bad. This is really getting long but he said its kind of on the line, it depends on the dr if they'd diagnose her with dyslexia. So basically he took away i feel, a diagnosis that could get her help to be able to get through college. He took away an ADHD diagnosis (im not complaining if he's right btw) which is a learning disibility on its own. So he said she has generalized anxiety, severe social anxiety, and possibly ocd. Hed need to do further testing. Im at a loss of what to do. The leaning and social issues affect every part of a grown up life. If a Dr or anyone reads this i hope i didn't leave anything out. I just want her to be able to go to college like she could if she didn't suffer whatever it is that she actually has. She also lacks empathy or acting "normal" during anything serious like sickness or death. Anyways i know she's not like Zachs brother but she's also not like me and i belive im adhd. I had signs from my child hood too, but noone knew. We didn't even have insurance or saw Drs at that time unless we were very sick. Im 50.

I have deep empathy and respect for you and your family loving Ethan through his struggles with Autism. I saw where this was going a while ago with people “revealing” they have Autism. I knew the flood gates were going to open the exploitation of this horrible condition. Tamra jumping on the bandwagon imo is nothing more than an escape route for her behavior. In these times people are vilified for shining a light on these untruthful narratives. Much respect Zack for speaking out. Love, compassion and Blessings to you ❤️🙏🏻

We are NOT all somewhat autistic. There are brain imaging stufies showing a clear structural difference btwn autistic & neurotypical individuals. Autism shows up as a huge amount of dendrite overgrowth & tjis overgrowth reaches into non-typucal brain region areas. There's a hypothesis there is a lack of developmental pruning which leads to a cacophony of stimuli. Stimming may be the behavioral adaptations to shutting out that over sensory information resulting from that overgrowth. The amount/severity of overgrowth & in what areas is likely the biochemical reason for the severity "spectrum".

@joellepatry493 You're welcome. I have dyslexia myself & there are lots of sensory issues (on a lesser scale). I am lucky to have had decades of educational opportunities working with neurotypical & neurodivergent populations. Even experts are still working on how differences in brain development affects all 3 areas of learning (physical, socioemotional & cognitive/intellectual). I enjoy sharing my opinion.

Thank you for this. I have two close family members with autism and am a social worker who has worked with children with autism for almost twenty years. it is not caused by 'trauma' nor does having autism mean that you don't have empathy it is just expressed differently. For her to use this as a way to excuse her behaviors is disgusting. Tamra has issues for sure, possibly a personality disorder (I'm convinced that many of the housewives do-lol!), but autism? nope. I just gotta say, I love what I do, I love my students and nephews- I learn from them everyday. Not that autism isn't challenging, I have the scars to prove it but it can be so rewarding when gains (even the smallest) are made. So sorry about your grandfather, and your brother's reaction to it. I have written social stories about death/losing someone and found it very helpful for them- death is such an hard concept to understand the permanence of it.
